Re: Preupgrade change?

(Sorry for top-posting, blame blackberry and me)
IMHO - if preupgrade doesn't work for those running F13 - it would be a
blocker for F14 release IMHO.

A few days after would be rather bad and should have been previously
clearly communicated, given that preupgrade is one of our official 'Good
Ways To Upgrade' and lots of people want to upgrade on release day. If
there's a significant chance preupgrading to F14 won't be possible on
release day, could you please co-ordinate with the appropriate teams to
ensure the PRs that go out on release day explain this and give an ETA
for preupgrade?

Fresh install, no network
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I just did a fresh install of F14-RC1 (i.e. the gold version, x86_64)
with default options and have no network. My F13 system on the same h/w
and net had no problems. This is a bog-standard wired Ethernet using
DHCP to a Belkin hub. The net itself is fine as other machines can
connect, but F14 is dead. The "Edit Connections" dialogue is completely
normal, IPv4, DHCP for everything etc.
The LAN interface is an onboard Intel e1000. The kernel module is
loaded. Running "ifup eth0" (after "ifdown") times out after 90 seconds.
Attempting to run nm-applet gives a mysterious message about "Could not
get the session bus". It then dumps core.
This is about as uncomplicated a setup as it's possible to imagine, and
yet it doesn't work out of the box. Suggestions would be welcome.
poc
PS Sending from my F13 netbook on the exact same network.

libisofs-0.6.38-1.fc13 (FEDORA-2010-17037)
Library to create ISO 9660 disk images
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
This release mainly provides a new feature for ISO 9660 images on USB sticks.
Changes towards previous version 0.6.34:
* New API function iso_write_opts_set_part_offset() controls creation of an MBR with a first partiton table entry that bears non-zero start address. A second set of volume descriptors and directory tree+tables gets created which can be used to mount the image at the partition start.
* Hiding all non-API symbols from the linker by use of --version-script
* Automatic C++ detection in libisofs.h by using macro __cplusplus
* Corrected several memory leaks and potential NULL pointer evaluations in case of memory shortage.
This release can use libjte to produce jigdo files along with the ISO image. Further filesystem images may be appended as MBR partitions 1 to 4. The capability was added to produce boot blocks for computers with MIPS CPU.
Changes towards previous version 0.6.36:
* New API calls iso_write_opts_attach_jte() and iso_write_opts_detach_jte() allow to use libjte for jigdo production.
* New API call iso_write_opts_set_tail_blocks() for tail padding inside ISO image.
* New API call iso_image_generator_is_running() to learn when the write thread is done.
* New API calls iso_image_add_mips_boot_file(), iso_image_get_mips_boot_files(), iso_image_give_up_mips_boot().
* New API call iso_write_opts_set_partition_img() for appending e.g. a small empty FAT12 filesystem which may be used on USB stick.

Oops. I meant correct use of the "refers-to" header. Thread completeness
relying *only* on refers-to is based on an incorrect assumption that
refers-to is compulsory and not optional. IMHO.

And as a closing one for OT stuff - the correct use of reply-to is
unfortunately optional in the RFC. I knew all of this hence my excuse. Still
noone has reacted to the point I raised.
But as at least one person on this list values thraed-completeness over
content, I gather it is better to simply accept that no matter what argument
is used, if it isn't done in whatever artificial definition of correctness
it will be ignored.
Thanks for showing me.

I would like to know if it is better to use the supplied video drivers by fe

My video card is:

Would anyone also be able to tell me if I will be able to gnome-shell/ gnome

anyway?

2010-11-01 - No QA meeting planned
by James Laska
# Fedora Quality Assurance Meeting
# Date: 2010-11-01
# Time: 15:00 UTC (11:00 EDT, 16:00 CET) [1]
# Location: #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net
Greetings gang,
I have no planned topics for a meeting today. Please keep up the great
work in discussion F-14 issues encountered. Your discussion has helped
fuel a list of issues [1] requiring Common_F14_bugs documentation [2].
Adam and I will likely be scrubbing that list later today to clear out
the CommonBugs? requests. If you'd like to add any issues to the list,
there are instructions on the wiki [2].
Just a heads up, daylight savings time has ended for some locations, and
will end in the US this coming weekend. Please update your calendars
accordingly.
Also, now is a good time to discuss next weeks meeting time. The last
few DST changes, we've kept the meeting at localtime() instead of
following UTC. My vote would be to continue that trend and meet at
16:00 UTC (11:00 EST, 17:00 CET) next week. But I'm certainly flexible
based on what works for everyone.
Thanks,
James
