NVIDIA Question
by David St.Clair
This may be a dumb question, but why can't Redhat distribute NVIDIA binary
drivers?
In NVIDIA's licence (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nv_swlicense.html) it
says:
"2.1.2 Linux Exception. Notwithstanding the foregoing terms of Section
2.1.1, SOFTWARE designed exclusively for use on the Linux operating system
may be
copied and redistributed, provided that the binary files thereof are not
modified in any
way (except for unzipping of compressed files)."
So, what's keeping RedHat from putting the drivers in the distribution? If
it's a GPL
thing, would it be easy to just download it during installation or at
least give the option to the user?
Thanks,

Mouse goes crazy
by Jonathan Villa
Ok, I have had Yarrow working well for a while now, but yesterday I
started experiencing some odd issues with my mouse. All of a sudden it
stops working correctly. The only thing that seems to fix is to kill X
and run mouse-test, then restart.
Any ideas?
Also, I have FC 1 running on a desktop which is hooked up to a KVM
switch. Whenever I go to another PC, and return, the same thing
happens, the mouse goes crazy.

Well, I mean, every few *days* a compose gets nominated for validation
testing, and a mail is sent to test-announce. Just check your test-
announce archives for mails with "nominated for testing" in their
subject lines, and you'll see dozens. Is this not sufficient
notification?

Perhaps, it's just that it always seemed to be you doing the testing,
so they got a bit conflated :)

This is only practical if it's going to be tested, and tested regularly
- not *only* on the final release candidate, right before we sign off
on the release. It needs to be tested regularly throughout the release
cycle, on the composes that are "nominated for testing".
Thanks!

F24 beta virt-install with kickstart fails
by Jos Vos
Hi,
Did anyone succeed in virt-install'ing F24 beta using kickstart
(on CentOS 6 host, if that matters)?
I see lots of warnings (dracut-initqueue), then the console goes
into a slowly filling bar at the bottom (plymouthd!?), then I see
lots of "No space left on device" errors, then a dracut emergency
shell is started.
The generated rdsosreport.txt contains 34284 lines...
FWIW, when *not* using kickstart I can install F24 beta on the
same system with virt-install fine.
Thx,

Change in latest update – suspending
by Russel Winder
Hi,
I have just done the 3GB update on my machines. Now I find that laptops
and workstations go into suspend mode without being told to. For me
this is not what I want. I am assuming the recent big update has
included a change of setting somewhere. I am not sure where to find
this. Can anyone tell me?

Introduction
by pmkellly@frontier.com
Hi!
My credentials are in electrical engineering and just before I retired
(almost three year ago) I was reading through the Intel spec's on the
latest chip sets ; as I needed to understand physical data flow
bottlenecks. From early childhood I was not only interested in
electronics, but in electronic computers. This stuff is something I do
because I really like it, not because it was my profession.
I have programmed in many languages. There are several I only wrote one
program with just to explore the language. There are some examples
below. Sometimes I am still amazed by the number of new languages being
published. After I look them over though I laugh at the huge
similarities to the ones the pre-existed them. My first experience as a
student was with with Fortran and SPS on an old IBM 1620 I found “laying
around”. After that I wrote a fair amount of machine code (hex) and some
BAL for IBM 360. After I was working and microprocessors became
available, there weren't any programmers around for them; so the
electrical engineers who implemented the processors in hardware also
wrote the software. A fact I was very happy about. I wrote hex code for
the Motorola 6800 and later I did a little for the 68000. I also wrote a
fair amount of code in Pascal on a VAX computer. Pascal was all they had
on that machine and they didn't want to buy another license.
Later when PCs became available in a form similar to those commonly in
use today, I wrote useful code in Smalltalk, Lisp, Java. The first two
were connected to an AI project I worked on. The Java was control code
for a mechanism not for web pages. In the 1980s I was sent by one of the
companies I worked for to take C classes. I took all classes, but then
the project was canceled; so I never had a chance to use it. Things I
learned in the C classes, like the ease with which memory leaks were
created, lead be to have a strong aversion for it . I never pursued C
after that.
Since I abandon Windows, about F16 ago, and started using Fedora, I've
been writing in Python. I've always held the opinion that code should be
well organized and easy to follow. After I wrote my first thousand lines
of python I went and got the style guide and found to my satisfaction
that my code, with one exception was compliant. I've never taken classes
in Python; so I won't present myself as being ready to start writing
Python for Fedora. Though I just purchased a course from the Teaching
Company that uses Python for all the code work. I haven't started it yet
so I can say more about it.
My tiny contributions to Fedora so far has been running the canned
regression tests on Linux. I got a FAS account so I could submit the
results, but since I haven't joined a group yet that was about all I
could do. As I was think further about it it seemed like testing would
be a good place to start.

Self-introduction: Andrzej P
by Andrzej Prochyra
Hi
I'm interested in helping out with QA. I have been a GNU/Linux user on
and off since the late 90s but went all GNU/Linux about 10 years
ago. I've been running Fedora as my desktop system for a couple of
years and now I'd like to give something back.
There are a lot of different tasks listed on the Wiki. What would be
something useful/a priority that a beginner could do? My IRC and FAS
nickname is andrzejp.
Thanks

Packages that are failing dependencies or blocked by other packages

When I run dnf update the follow problems show up before it tells me
that there is nothing to do. I've only been able to run 1 update since
Feb 4. It was huge, 11 GB, and took forever. I'm not even sure if
I'm on rawhide or F28. Yet I see that milestones are being passed, and
everything is on course for release of F28. Is it just that my repos are
lagging?
