Hi, I mentioned this in a QA meeting, and have given it enough testing that I think it's broadly usable. If desired it can be copied out of my user account and put up somewhere where QA folks will see it and can modify it as issues or improvements are discovered. What is it? The idea is to produce a system that can confidently be used for baremetal testing, without risking the primary operating system. While VM's are a great way to test, it's also a really idealized environment that tends to not expose an assortment of bugs that affect particular hardware. But then quite a lot of folks reasonably don't want to upgrade their daily use hardware early on, because they don't want to always have to debug things, or have to figure out how to undo the upgrade if it really goes badly. Good morning, Yesterday I got a new ISP. I have a new email address and I changed my email address in the Fedora Account System. I just checked it this morning and the new address is still there. However this morning the meeting announcements and test reports came to my old email address. Fortunately I haven't discontinued that ISP with it's associated email address yet. since F38 it happens to me that the dir for the journals is filled up with a lot of small journals (~5 MB) and something regarding time Is this still the case with F39 *new* installs (explicit *NOT* upgrades, e.g. F38 => F39)

Infinite bootup into live CD so I am not even able to install it. Pressing Esc displays: "Starting initrd-switch-root.service - Switch Root... Failed to start up manager" VM: 6 Cores and 3072MB RAM and 30GB disk image.

Accented uppercase letters

I'm pretty sure that before Fedora 39, typing an accented character (Italian keyboard) while the caps lock is active, will result in the uppercase version of such accented character (i.e. è -> È). It was an useful way to type accented capital letters instead of E' Now it doesn't work anymore. Or better, it doesn't work in many applications (i.e. Libreoffice, Firefox, Evolution, GNOME Text Editor), but it works on Chrome or Telegram. What might be the cause? Thanks, A.

Fedora 39 (silverblue) doesn't suspend properly

Suspending fedora silverblue 39 (rebased from 38) instead logs out of GNOME. I don't see crashing logs. Memory usage

Hello. I have a Fedora Workstation machine. I monitor it with check_mk. Since the upgrade from 38 to 39, there is a constant warning about committed memory. Total virtual memory: 14.85% - 2.03 GB of 13.68 GB, Committed: 129% - 17.72 GB of 13.68 GB virtual memory (warn/crit at 100.00%/150.00% used) WARN Well, I know that RAM usage is not so simple to interpret, and honestly I don't understand it very well (what is committed memory?), but the workload of the machine is exactly the same as before (I use such computer to display a web page with Firefox, btw the situation does not change if I close Firefox), and as you can see in the attached graph, such committed memory usage started to grow the day I upgraded to Fedora 39. Any idea? Could it be a clue of some memory leak? Thanks, A.

What I did so far: Tested an other user (inkl. new one) … this works. Reset the Gnome Desktop to default, with the failing user sudo dconf reset -f /org/gnome/ works not. Changed from GDM to Lightdm, this works not. Text is blurry in apps like edge, spotify etc. But not blur in system apps , firefox.

I recelty upgraded from F38 to F39. In F38 i was using default settings for display which is 2880x1800(16:10), 90hz,200% scaling. AFter upgrading to F39 when scaling is set to 200 percent texts are blurry in apps except system apps and firefox. If i set scaling to 100 percent and increase font scaling from gnome tweaks application texts are not blurry. my graphic card is Intel iris xe. Please let me know if there is any fix for it. btw i use wayland system

I'm tracking Fedora 39 and on the last update QCad crashes consistently when adding anything to an empty drawing or opening a drawing. The message is: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Tools::IllegalArgumentException' /usr/bin/qcad: line 3: 2695 Aborted (core dumped) /usr/lib64/qcad/qcad-bin "$@" I'm new to Fedora so not sure if this is the correct list to send this to or if I should open a bug report. Rawhide Nightlies crashes on reaching Graphical Environment

Greetings everyone I am trying to install Fedora Server Edition using netinstall images from https://openqa.fedoraproject.org/nightlies.html So far, I have not been successful. I tried the installation with yesterday's image and today's image (few minutes ago). I got the same error message as soon as it reaches graphical environment. I used images from the "Last Known Good" (green) column in the "Server boot" table/section. After few traceback lines, the last line says: pyanaconda errors.ExitError: gnome_kiosk exited on signal 5 That was surprising. The box is a Dell Optiplex 3050 though. I tried exporting a comprehensive report but the box has no internet yet. I might be able to fire off nmcli if I can get a shell. I am open to ideas as I suspect this is peculiar. Otherwise those images won't be on the "Last Known Good" column. Regards Onyeibo (@twohot)

Hey Folks, Toolbx as a blocker for Fedora Workstation was declared as part of Fedora Linux 39 changes process. Hi folks! Sorry for not sending these sooner, but better late than never: here's a blocker bug status summary for Fedora 39. We're currently targeting a go/no-go meeting this Thursday (September 14) and release the following Tuesday (September 19). Action summary ============== Accepted blockers ----------------- 1. anaconda - webUI: cannot install to encrypted software RAID partition - POST: anaconda team to send new release/build 2. kernel - /dev/tpm* is missing with new kernels - VERIFIED: releng and I to push the fix stable 3. shim - Live image made with BOOTX64.EFI from latest shim-x64-15.6-2 fails to boot on some boards - NEW: likely waive again at go/no-go Proposed blockers ----------------- 1. anaconda - Anaconda webUI can't handle two volumes with the same LABEL, writes into a different partition than indicated - NEW: anaconda team to investigate and fix 2. edk2 - Fedora 39 fails to boot on qemu VM using OVMF_CODE.secboot.fd firmware - NEW: QA to isolate the bug more precisely, kraxel to investigate and fix 3. fedora-repos - updates-testing is not enabled when it should be - VERIFIED: releng and I to push the fix stable 4. python-blivet - blivet-gui creates different volumes with the same name, confusing anaconda webUI - ASSIGNED: blivet team to investigate and fix Bug-by-bug detail ================= Accepted blockers ----------------- 1. anaconda - webUI: cannot install to encrypted software RAID partition - POST There is a fix for this which has been verified. We need a new anaconda build with it included (anaconda team). 2. kernel - /dev/tpm* is missing with new kernels - VERIFIED This just needs to be pushed to stable (me and releng). 3. shim - Live image made with BOOTX64.EFI from latest shim-x64-15.6-2 fails to boot on some boards - NEW It seems that, unfortunately, we may have to waive this *again*. There is definite movement upstream but it probably hasn't moved far enough to let us fix it for Beta. We're hoping to finally have this resolved for Final. Proposed blockers ----------------- 1. anaconda - Anaconda webUI can't handle two volumes with the same LABEL, writes into a different partition than indicated - NEW It's possible to have multiple btrfs volumes with the same label, which confuses anaconda/blivet and can result in data getting written to a different place than indicated. Seems likely to be accepted as a blocker, we need anaconda/blivet folks to look at fixing this (anaconda team). 2. edk2 - Fedora 39 fails to boot on qemu VM using OVMF_CODE.secboot.fd firmware - NEW This was initially filed and proposed on the basis that VM boot didn't work at all, but then we discovered it was specific to the Secure Boot- enabled UEFI firmware configuration. That may not be important enough to merit blocker status, but we should definitely look into exactly what the trigger is between host and guest, and get the edk2 maintainers to look into this (kraxel). 3. fedora-repos - updates-testing is not enabled when it should be - VERIFIED It's an interesting question whether the criteria do or should cover this, but the fix is already accepted as an FE and queued for stable, so it will be pushed shortly (me and releng). 4. python-blivet - blivet-gui creates different volumes with the same name, confusing anaconda webUI - ASSIGNED This is kinda a companion to 1: not only can multiple btrfs volumes with the same label exist, but blivet actually creates them this way at present unless you explicitly set a label. There's a question whether resolving this would be enough to make 1. not a blocker, or whether we should still block on 1. because other tools could potentially create the same situation.
