I experienced this also. I haven't gather additional information yet,
but there appear to be some kernel changes queued up related to VGA
output [1]. I'm not a master of the kernel, but I'm asking around to
see if these are related.
I've filed the following bug to address the problem I'm experiencing ...
514600 - Intel 82G965 requires 'nomodeset' workaround to get working
text-mode
Looking to see if this is specific to drivers or a more generic KMS
problem affecting all adapters.
