on-screen keyboard problems

Hi,

Firefox and LibreOffice, my main apps, are having troubles for the past 3 weeks or so. For
some reason this virtual keyboard started appearing. I thought it was Firefox (esr,
released, nightly) and failed to eliminate it's appearance. It makes FF completely
useless. I just started doing some spread sheet work and, what a surprise, osk appears. So
now, spread sheet is practically useless as well.

I have been unable to figure out what I might have done  to cause this.

I'm using WindowMaker as the desktop manager and Konsole for "terminals". I
don't see anything in WindowMaker to cause this... I haven't messed with it's
config in several months.

Could someone give me some help please?

Hi,

On a swag I went to fedoracore for kde and searched for "on-screen keyboard". I
found several entries. One pointed me to a writeup at
https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtvirtualkeyboard-deployment-guide.html. I found an environment
variable mentioned, "QT_VIRTUALKEYBOARD_DESKTOP_DISABLE". I experimented with
this by adding it and '=true' to the command line to start firefox. IT WORKED! 

As far as I know, my screen is NOT a touch screen system so I'm guessing that the
detection mechanism is not functioning properly?

I have been unable to figure out what I might have done  to cause this behavior. I have
added this to my .bashrc.

If it really isn't a touch screen, that would seem to be the case,
yeah, and filing a bug would be a good idea. I'm not sure where,
though, possibly udev?
