for the radeon video driver. Which is used, as you may already have
deduced, for ATI Radeon (and FireGL) video cards. All of 'em.

in #fedora-qa on Freenode, whenever counts as Wednesday daytime for you
(there should be someone, either myself, Dave or someone else from the

table, and will shortly contain up-to-date live CD images (for now, the
links point to the Nouveau test day live images, which don't have the
latest changes from Rawhide). So it's very easy to test without needing
a permanent install of Rawhide or any permanent changes to your system.
We really need testing with as broad as possible a range of Radeon
cards, so if you have one, please do come out and do the tests! Thanks.

now), but no 3D.

You want anything before the HD 2xxx series then. The X1xxx series,
X8xx, X7xx, X6xx, X5xx, X3xx, 9xxx, 8xxx, 7xxx series. Any of those. :)
Anything back to, oh, the X6xx series or so should perform pretty well
for Compiz and non-cutting-edge games.

Another thing to keep in mind is that ATI released the r600 and r700 info
(http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzE3Nw ) and there
will be good support for that down the road. So if you see a good deal
on a newer card you might still want to get it.

Yes. Actually feedback for r100 series (like yours) and r200 series is
probably valued the most as the 3D code was merged with the new code for
r300 and above, so it changed significantly.

Perhaps there is a barrier. OTOH, considering the Test Cases, those
willing to test should be capable of knowing what he/she has for
video.
If needed, some simple tests that gave me positive results:
lsmod | grep ^radeon
lspci -nn | grep -i radeon
etc.
Oddly, just because of this I now realize that all three desktop
systems I use nearly every day have radeon cards in them. Guess I'll
be extra busy this week!

Actually, James tends to add an lspci command or some such to the
announcements when he does 'em. I tend to assume most people at least
know what video card they have, but maybe I'm assuming too far :)

They already do, but this is at a different stage. This is at the point
where the user is deciding whether they actually have the right hardware
to participate in the test.
James, just a vendor ID of 1002 in something isn't enough, because ATI
make lots of other things besides graphics cards. That could just
indicate you have, say, an ATI motherboard, but you might have a
different graphics card plugged into it. Still, I just don't see this as
a huge issue, I really don't think many people don't know what graphics
card they have?

The "basic" test seems to imply two (2) independent goals. The need
for nomodeset to not be present encourages me to look for the fancy
plymouth graphics. Or, is that wishful thinking on my part, and the
"graphical login screen" is enough to consider a PASS?

Not really, the tests aren't that granular. If you're familiar with the
issue and how it should look pre- and post- fix, you can do it as part
of the Xv test, I guess.

I think 6. of the VT test should be Ctrl-F8...?
Not usually, no. With modesetting enabled, X is on VT 1 by default
(unless it is restarted for some reason).
Without modesetting, or with modesetting but after an X restart, it'll
usually be on VT 7.
