Nvidia driver and Xorg

A recent update causes X to not load with the following error in the log file:

(II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(II) Module nvidia: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation"
 compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.0
 Module class: X.Org Video Driver

This server has a video driver ABI version of 5.0 that this

(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.

I can start X manually with "startx -- -ignoreABI" but I was wondering if there
was way to make this the default (ie. something in xorg.conf)?  Or will this probably be
fixed in a subsequent update?

nVidia has to update their driver to the new ABI version. Fedora can and 
will do nothing to fix this in an xorg-x11-server-Xorg update.

It would be nice if at least you advised the recipient about what to do, instead of
saying, "Not my responsibility".

Thats the reason other distributions are gaining ground.  They know how to respond with
some leads, or even a url to indicate where to look for the solution.

Please do not top post.

Where would I point "epate" to fix this non-fixable issue? The nVidia 
Customer Support phone number?

Ubuntu, Mandriva, et. all would say the same thing as I did. They can't 
offer any better support of the nVidia driver than we can.

P.S. I am just a QA tester. I am not the xorg package maintainer.

The solution is to use --ignore-abi if you need to use it *now*, else
wait for nvidia to fix their drivers .

Well, sure.  But if there's a workaround that we can apply ourselves to
get X to start with -ignoreABI, that would help.  And if it's part of
packaging to get it to start with -ignoreABI, then maybe RPMforge guys
could fix it there while we wait for nVidia.

Maybe your card will work fine with the current 'nouveau' driver.
Did you try?

X is now usually started bye /etc/event.d/prefdm script but if there
is a way to pass extra options through this chain, and how and
where, I have no idea.  You will have to investigage that yourself.
/etc/X11/prefdm is a script too.

Up to Nvidia.  They are the only one which can fix that.
