on boot I entered:
linux irqpoll askmethod

Method chosen was url.

Q. Why does it go looking for stage2.img, when it is included on
boot.iso

Read the Anaconda list archive for the past few weeks, it will probably 
answer your question.

But anyhow, the closest I could find to my O.Q. was:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-devel-list/2008-March/msg00822.html

Because the code's buggy - it finds the stage2.img on the CD but fails
to load it properly.

I guess that's the answer.

I assume we're talking rawhide? There's been recent discussion (and 
action I think) on getting stage2 from elsewhere. I would expect the 
fruits to be in rawhide, but not in f9.
