How to for upgrading from F7 to F8 via yum?

Just wondering if someone was going to write a howto on how to
correctly upgrade F7 to F8 via yum so that features like PulseAudio are
installed correctly?

When going from FC6 to F7 after the yum upgrade I remember having to do
something like 'yum groupupdate "GNOME Desktop Environment"' to get a
few things installed.

I would prefer to use yum to upgrade my machine, but I have the feeling
that if I do that some things won't be quite right.

Eventually, here:http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/LiveUpgrade

Put, basically, I do it like this:

1. Read the release notes.  Do anything required pre-upgrade.
2. Manually download and install fedora-release* rpms for the new version.
3. yum clean all
4. yum update
5. Get more coffee
6. Read /.
7. When yum is finished, reboot.
8. Clean up anything required post-install from the release notes.
9. Profit!!

Alternative step 4 if you're running x86_64:
yum shell
remove dbus.i386
update
run

I believe we're still tracking these gotchas on this wiki page:

It'd be awesome if you could add something about handling dbus.

Another thing: To get PulseAudio working you'll probably need to do 'yum
groupinstall sound-and-video', followed by 'yum install
libflashsupport' (to make Flash work) and possibly some KDE stuff that I
can't think of right now.

tell selinux to relabel on next boot - touch /.autorelabel

I use the following script to locate the rpmsave/new files and --cleanup takes
care of the simple problems. Everything left over needs diff'ing to see if you
want the new changes.

Been like that for awhile, AFAIR.  My fingers just prefer update.  Nun
clothes, I suppose.

FWIW, most .rpmnew issues that really matter should be in release notes. 
Some changes are miniscule, created because you altered the default and
the upgrade doesn't want to clobber a %config(noreplace) and others could
break things, like the amanda/xinetd/ipv4 thing from a few months back.

According to the man page,

upgrade:is the same as the update command with the --obsoletes flag set.

Is it exactly the same now? If so, the man page should be updated and 
one of the arguments should be deprecated.

the default on fedora is the same, yes.

obsoletes is set by default anyway.

so it stays and the docs are completely accurate.

Can you give any specific examples of this today?  We may have had them
in the past, but that's no reason to continue advocating this
(possibly unnecessary) step.

I concur with Jesse.  I only reboot my boxes after a glibc upgrade or a
release upgrade, or a kernel security fix.  I can think of no reason to
reboot before upgrading releases, unless it's for one of the above
reasons, generally.

I think pulseaudio may need some special attention. About a week or so 
ago I had to manually install  pulseaudio-utils gstreamer-plugins-pulse 
pulseaudio-module-gconf alsa-plugins-pulseaudio pulseaudio-module-x11 
and pulseaudio-libs-glib2 on my system tracking rawhide for audio to work.
