Actually, if you use Windows XP provided ftp client (ftp.exe), it will
transfer it without problems. If you are using a FAT partition on your XP,
then you might not be able to see files bigger than 2GB. I have never used
FAT, I always go for NTFS.
I tried that, but it did not work, and the drive is NTFS. That is why I was
puzzled. So ... I installed samba server, and now I am burning via the
mounted share.

There is no shame on using Windows, no need to justify! :-)
Ha ha, I knew that there would be someone that would provide the required
grief about XP usage.
