Hi, in the F42 cycle, we had a bug blocking Beta because one image was oversize [1], and realized [2] that it might be time to revisit this criterion [3]. The criterion targets Beta historically, because with optical media, there was no way of using a "larger install medium". That's no longer the case with flash drives. You can easily use a bigger one. And for Beta purposes, it really doesn't matter whether we've hit the limit or not, we need to test the functionality. Furthermore, we no longer even block Beta on optical media (that's just Final), so even the optical case no longer applies there.
For these reasons, I believe it makes sense to target the Final milestone with the size requirements, instead of Beta.
Feedback welcome.
Thanks, Kamil Fedora Quality

Kamil,
I agree. This is the right thing to do.

I agree with the rationale provided. Move it to Final.
Brandon Nielsen
Agreed. Target final.

Another +1, this makes perfect sense.
While we're on the topic, we should also consider bumping the netinst limit generally to 1.2G. Several netinst images are currently over the 1G limit for F43 and these will be blockers if nothing changes. I'm not super jazzed about trying to stuff them back under 1G right now, dunno if anyone else is.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'll wait a few more days and then implement it.

We should probably poke Server SIG about Server netinst. Who owns the Everything netinst?
Furthermore, it's a bit annoying to see a flood of errors on each installation template, because lots of Spins are oversize. It is then hard to spot the important errors: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_43_Rawhide_20250517.n.0_I...
We could either disable size checking for spins in general (they don't block release anyway), or disable it at least for those who clearly don't care about the size limit (being half a gig over the limit means they don't care, in my eyes).

This might still need a tweak in the image size checking bot that files bug reports automatically. Ping Adam.

oh, yeah, it can propose bugs as final blockers instead of beta. We'll have to move existing proposals manually though.
