is there a known problem with intel 855gm video card on f15? on my thinkpad x 40 the system fails to start gdm or exit rhgb, if i try runlevel 3. also, if i boot with the newly installed f15 kernel, it fails to enter (usable) text mode due to (probably) framebuffer problems: no human readable info is displayed on screen after framebuffer attempts to start.

one thing i've noticed is that some gnome-packages were not updated from f14. another is that the default runlevel was not graphical.target. now gdm is starting with f14 kernel, but if i attempt text mode or graphical with f15 kernel i'll still get garbage on screen or just black screen with a mouse, for graphical.target.

The 8xx series is, I think, not supported for Shell - you should get the 'classic GNOME' fallback - but basic boot and GDM and the 'classic' mode should all work. File a bug for any KMS issues.

ok, thank you. it will be done. first i'll try to restart networkmanager so that i can connect (?) to the running system with ssh
indeed, with nomodeset, the gdm and text output is displayed fine under the new f15 kernel. and also, the gnome-shell doesn't start but the fallback to gnome-panel, etc is ok.

nomodeset in Rawhide (actually, since F13 or so) does not run intel without KMS; it just gets you vesa. The bug report's fine, but just so you know :) Only the radeon driver has a UMS component any more, and that only for old chipsets. nouveau and intel only do KMS now.
