Our test day kickstart script was oficially accepted [1] by the
Spins SIG and is available in the spin-kickstarts project [2]
(thanks to Bruno Wolff III).
I have modified the guide accordingly - thanks to having it upstream
it is now much simpler than before [3].

Two notes. It won't actually be on the rawhide image as part of the
custom-kickstarts package until a new version of custom-kickstarts is
bit from the git repo. However there is a link directly to the source
in the git repo from the spins page.
The second is that kanarip wanted me to double check a possible issue
with the ks file. If I find that this is a real problem, I'll get back
to you guys:
In %post, the script says:

# Add gnome-terminal shortcut to desktop
cp /usr/share/applications/gnome-terminal.desktop /etc/skel/Desktop
==
but, afaics, /etc/skel/Desktop/ does not exist at that point, right?
Just add a mkdir /etc/skel/Desktop.
You'll also have to make the desktop file executable to make nautilus
show it the way you want, I think.

Yes it does. Maybe it's a little hidden, but it's there:
...
# Create a .desktop link for Test Day wiki
mkdir -p /etc/skel/Desktop
...

Not a bad idea. But the desktop icon is there for people who
just want to run a terminal (they won't know there is some
context menu extension, and looking for it in application
menu is too tiresome). Originally I wanted to put the terminal
onto the top panel, but I haven't succeeded (adding a panel
launcher is difficult as hell), so I had to settle for a
desktop icon.
Of course for other people the nautilus-open-terminal can be
very handy. But I think I will bother Bruno about it after
a while when I have a longer list of requests :)

I'm a tad concerned you would be adding a commonplace but entirely
separate method for opening a terminal session that would make
nautilus-open-terminal even more obscure than it already is.
I'd rather see nautilus-open-terminal extended to add the desktop icon
(and eventually, the panel launcher) too, so that the desktop support
for opening terminal sessions is consistent in implementation, and
documented in as few places as possible.
