Saaamba..Points to be discussed!!

1. The underscore used to underline the followed character, Where i should
put this character '_'?
2. What about the Slash..I find it in the translation itself not the
originial script.. Shall i remove it or does it mean anything..
3. Sometimes i don't know if this word is noun or verb; it could be
informative message or window label or action needed from the user..For
Example:
Create, modify, and delete samba shares = أنشء، عدّل، واحذف مُشاركات سامبا
Create, modify, and delete samba shares = إنشاء، تعديل، وحذف مُشاركات سامبا
not clear enough to me :)
Add a Samba share = أضف مُشاركة سامبا oR[ Samba أضف مشاركة جديدة تحت خادم ]
_Add Share = /_ملف/إ_ضافة مُشاركة [why the translation looks like that,
shall i change it to إضافة مشاركة]
No guest account = guest لا يوجد حساب لمستخدم [did not transilitate the word
guest]
Visible = مرىء [or مشاركة مرئية]
Visibility = رؤية [Not enough to say vision; مدى رؤية المشاركة yuk!! any
better suggestion]
O_nly allow access to specific users = اسمح بالوصول _فقط لمستخدمين محدّدين
or it better to change it to مسموح فقط للمستخدمين المحددين

Do we have any Web Developers within?

I have noticed that we have a lot of ppl here. Some of them shy to speak. A lot
with no experience with CVS and Linux at all. Yet, they would joined the
mailing list.
I was thinking for a way to get the shy people to participate in more effective
way without trying to educate them how to use CVS, and/or educate them how to
use Linux.
So here is what I am thinking about.
CVS Mirror to match what is on Red Hat translation servers. That will give us:
- Control over our members
- Update our Keys
- Better, and faster management
- Central update process
Now to my next idea as we gonna have our own CVS, and files available to us
on filesystem where the web interface has access to it.
I was wondering if we can develop something that parse all the CVS files, give
template form that allow ppl who has no experience to just fill in a form and
submit this translation.
The point here is:
- Need PHP to parse and format the forms
- PHP submit the changes to MySQL DB, waiting for Maintainer approval
- Maintainer check the translation and click approve, hence the updates
goes to the PO files on the file system, and trigger a CVS sync to Red Hat
Server.
So the question is: Do we have any PHP/MySQL developer here who can try to
accomplish the above?

Java application to help translation

I thought of bringing this to a broader audience. I suggested to my team
(Arabic translation team) while ago to have some sort of web interface to
help non-technical ppl to contribute translation.
The idea was:
- Application that parse CVS po files
- Store the strings, headers, and translation into DB
- 3 interfaces:
o Contributor - where an authenticated user can view untranslated and
fuzzy strings
and contribute translation from his browser.
o Maintainer - Approve translation and merge new translation, QA, ..etc.
o Admin - Populate DB with the PO files, generate PO files and
check them
back to CVS where it can be later sync'd to Fedora
CVS.
Mohamed Ghoniem and Maha Helwa from the Arabic team volunteered to
contribute
a Java code. The work still going and we only got a parser for the PO files
but we
wish to have full featured java application in the near future.
To check the current first initial code:
http://www.arabic-fedora.org/po2db.tar.gz
This code takes care of all PO components. It handles strings correctly
in UTF-8 charset, it works fine with Arabic, and it should handle anyother
charset and/or all languages supported by java.
We thought to bring this to a broader audience and other teams as we think
this can be of a great help to all the translation effort. Also there maybe
other ideas that we can share.

viewing Arabic web sites with firefox

Hello everybody,
I 'm new to this mailing list, I hope I'm at the right place to ask thi
I've installed FC4 where I had no problem to view arabic web site on firefox
The problem is that I've used the KDE "Desktop Settings Wizards",
which seems to have changed the settings such as language and country,
and now arabic site under firefox looks with the arabic characters
unlinked !!
does anybody here have an idea to solve this ?

bash and arabic text

I have a problem with bash command line : Arabic text is displayed from
left to right and letters are dissociated. Do you guys happen to know
how to display Arabic properly in bash command line ? I am using FC4.
