1. 我个人觉得，Freedom没有什么争论，应该翻译成自由。
2. Friends 为什么翻译成“友爱”，而不是“友谊”，我不太清楚。从意思来讲，差别不大。我个人倾向“友谊”。根据 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Foundations 的解释，Friends有为共同价值而奋斗的意思。“友谊”更大气一些，况且“谊”字本身就通“义”字，觉得意义上更合适一些。或许有更好的翻译，但是目前想不出来。
3. Features 根据上面网页的解释，体现了为了更广泛的用户而对于更高性能的追求。我个人觉得可以翻译成“特性”。
4. First 同样基于上述网页，代表者对于创新的承诺。我觉得可以直接翻译成“创新”。

一些字词的翻译讨论

跟大家讨论一些字词的翻译问题，都是翻译过程中碰到的。括号里是我的建议。
1. boot（引导）, reboot（重新启动）
boot这个词出现时，大多和系统引导有关，例如boot loader，因此翻译成“引导”应该没有问题。
照此说，reboot应该翻译成“重新引导”。但是考虑到大家的习惯，翻译成“重新启动”显然更容易让人理解。之所以没有翻译成“重启”，是考虑到“重启”还是接近口语。作为正式文档，没必要时不要用简写或缩写，除非一些大众化的词（例如DVD）或者专有术语（例如BIOS）。
2. remove（移除，删除）
remove这个词本身既有移动的意思，又有删除的意思。例如remove a device，虽然设备被remove了，但是它仍然存在，这时候用“移除”比较好。如果是remove data or files，被remove的对象往往不存在了并且无法再恢复，这时候用“删除”比较好。
3. update（更新，软件更新）
update英文同时有动词和名词意思，对应中文“更新”也同时有动词和名词意思。考虑到英文语法，update的词性很容易分辨。但是由于中文语法的特点（没有时态和单复数变化），“更新”的词性不容易分辨。对于熟悉电脑的朋友，大多数情况下这不是问题。但对于不熟悉电脑，需要看说明进行操作的朋友，有时候会带来困惑。例如“下载更新出错”，到底是下载时出错，还是更新时出错？建议对于动词，翻译成“更新”；对于名词，翻译成“软件更新”，这样意思也更明确了。
4. passphrase（密码短语）
这个翻译成“密码”或者“口令”似乎都很难和password区分开来。有翻译成密码句的，觉得还是和phrase对应翻译成“密码短语”比较好。
5. repository（软件库）
这个的翻译可以说是五花八门。按本义翻成“仓库”或者“储存库”均不能说明其含义，个人觉得“软件库”是最合适的。
6. active （有效的）network connection
active这里不是激活或者活跃的意思，就是说有一个能用的网络，觉得翻译成“有效的”就可以了。
以后有更多的想法还会和大家讨论。
