i18n CVS access
by Francesco Tombolini
Hallo, my friend Guido recently has joined to the project and want translate
the fedora-install-guide in italian.
I have suggested him to get the package files from i18n.redhat.com but when he
try to get the translate module from the server he gets these messages:
[guido@xe3 ~]$ export CVS_RSH=ssh
[guido@xe3 ~]$ export
CVSROOT=:ext:gcaruso@i18n.redhat.com:/usr/local/CVS
[guido@xe3 ~]$ cvs -z9 co translate/
Connection closed by 66.187.233.241
cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages
if any)
The connection is closed from the server before he can get anything.
He has a Fedora account and he can "Take" packages from the status page, but
the cvs don't work.
Can someone help us to address this problem?
Thank-you in advance.
Francesco

This is an update that the release notes POT is already a few hours late
in being ready, and still has some hours to go. I hope to have it all
done by Midnight my time, which is 0700 UTC (7 hours late). Apologies
for the delay and the delayed status update.

Translation freeze dates & FC6T3
by Dimitris Glezos
I'm not sure how this happened, but many translations that were made before 3/9,
did not make it into FC6T3. From the Schedule I see that the development freeze
is 5/9.
I saw it at least in anaconda, -config-date and comps-po.
Furthermore, even if devel freeze is 5/9, the translation has no reason to stop
at that time. At least that happens in GNOME, where translation continues after
the string freeze and the hard freeze?

Release Notes freeze for FC6
by Paul W. Frields
Release notes will be frozen on the wiki for translation this Saturday,
23 September 2006. Any content not updated there will not be
translated, and will not be in the FC6 final ISO spin. Please make your
updates by Friday 22 September 2006 at 2359 UTC to ensure they are
available to FC6 users.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/Schedule
Content will be unfrozen following the XML conversion and release to the
Translation Project. At that time, you may again make changes to the
wiki, but these changes will *NOT* be in the ISO or FC6 final release.
They will be published on the Web as an errata release. This Web page
is linked prominently from the top of the Release Notes included in the
FC6 ISO spin.

Automerge .po files with .pot files !
by Ankit Patel
Hi,
I would like to raise the issue of automatic merge of .po files again. I
have gone through the following threads. Please read them if you haven't.
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2006-August/msg00023.html
( Agree )
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2006-July/msg00032.html
( Not Agree )
Fedora translation repository is extracted from original fedora
applications' sources. All translators/localizers are provided access to
translation repository only, which is correct. Whenever developer
(package maintainer) make changes in the source code, s/he make the
changes in the .pot file respectively, but not .po files for all
languages. I agree that few developers modify .po files also along with
.pot which is good for translators/localizers. But what about those
packages in which only .pot file is updated and .po files are not, which
is not at all helpful.
See the different between total number of entries for each language :
http://i18n.redhat.com/cgi-bin/i18n-status?page=overall_status&branch=HEA...
I agree that developers are busy with bug solving and feature requests.
So, i would like to request the maintainer of the fedora localization
project to take care of this. I need a favor from the entire group of
localization in my request, so that we can sort this issue out.
If i am wrong in anyway, please let me know.

Re: Automerge .po files with .pot files !
by Renato Pavičić
Hi,
I agree with you 100%. Since this is volunteer job, it is natural to
expect that translator does not have time to checks pot/po corelations
every day. Result is dicrepancy in line numbers, and I am not clear as
what effect it will have on final package.
If auto uptade of po by pot is not possible, I would suggest that one more
column should be added to individual languages status pages. That column
will represent current POT line numbers.
Also, one more row to overal i18n page, depicting total line number. I
think that should not be a hard task, just to add a scipt (orsomething)
that will go through all POT files.
Best regards
