I missed you but don't have any details. That's good news. I will do my best
just bring them in.

Munzir,
I still think that you should keep going with your role and try to get
some contributors.
I am not sure if you already know, I have relocated to Dubai in our new
office. There few partners and Universities in the region want to contribute
.. If you still interested I can try to gear up and get good number of
people.
What do you think?

Hello,
I think I am the current maintainer of Fedora and frankly the current
situation is a disaster. The last time some one offered to help is Jan/2007
as
can be seen here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-ar/2007-
January/thread.html
I believe I used to respond properly to any message in the Arabic Fedora
mailing list. I really got busy to the point I couldn't translate myself but
always doing a good job reviewing and guiding others on how to submit proper
translations. However, this is not the best situation I know.
Sherif, may be it's better you take the torch now or find someone who can
encourage a community around the Arabic translation. Please, advice and I am
all yours and thanks for your care about our language.

Summary: Typos & Context Clarification Required for Effective
Translations
Product: Fedora
Version: rawhide
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: i18n
Severity: medium
Priority: low
Component: imsettings
AssignedTo: tagoh(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: runab(a)redhat.com
QAContact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: tagoh(a)redhat.com, fedora-trans-list(a)redhat.com,
fedora-i18n-bugs(a)redhat.com
Classification: Fedora
Target Release: ---
Description of problem:
Quite a few of the strings in the imsettings.po file available for translation
for Fedora 12 contain typographical errors, and may need a rewrite to either
correct their grammatical syntax or fully understand the reference to their
context.
The .pot file is here:
https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/imsettings/trunk/
direct link:
https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/imsettings/trunk/raw/po/imse...
The strings are mentioned below along with their source reference:
----------------------------------------------
#: ../applet/imsettings-applet.schemas.in.h:3
msgid ""
"If false, all of informations will not delivered through libnotify, except "
"error and warning messages."
-----------------------------------------------
#: ../applet/imsettings-applet.schemas.in.h:7
msgid ""
"When this option is enabled, all of key events will be sent to Input Method "
"synchronously. This might affects a performance."
------------------------------------------------
#: ../applet/main.c:714
msgid ""
"When this option is enabled, all of key events will be sent to Input Method "
"synchronously. this might affects a performance."
------------------------------------------------
#: ../applet/main.c:990
#, c-format
msgid "Please %s%s"
-------------------------------------------------
#: ../backends/xim/proxy.c:2969
msgid "A XIM server name would connects to"
-------------------------------------------------
#: ../src/factory.c:1295
msgid "A directory where puts the system wide xinputrc on."
--------------------------------------------------
#: ../src/factory.c:1301
msgid "A directory where puts the IM configurations on."
---------------------------------------------------
#: ../src/factory.c:1408
msgid "A directory where puts the system-wide xinputrc puts on (debugging
only)"
----------------------------------------------------
#: ../utils/imsettings-info.c:61 ../utils/imsettings-list.c:58
#: ../utils/imsettings-restart.c:84 ../utils/imsettings-start.c:85
#: ../utils/imsettings-stop.c:83
#, c-format
msgid ""
"Mismatch the version of imsettings.\n"
"Run imsettings-reload -f may resolves this issue but be aware that will ends "
"up to restart Input Method too\n"
------------------------------------------------------
Additional Info:
1. There are quite a few strings, where Capitalization was missed after a
full-stop.
2. Correcting this may break string freeze for Fedora - 12.
Thanks
Runa

How to proof-read or review s-c-*-docs translations?
by Ankit Patel
Hi,
Though this is little late for Fedora 12 now, some of you may be still
translating system-config-{date,samba,nfs,services,users}-docs packages. Just
came across a query on the $subject.
To review or proof-read software packages the process is pretty known I guess.
- Download the PO files
- Convert to MO files using "msgfmt -i PO_file -o MO_file"
- Place the MO files to locale directories
'/usr/share/locale/<locale_name>/LC_MESSAGES/' with appropriate naming
- Run the application in your native language.
That's it!
However, to review or proof-read s-c-*-docs packages the process is bit
different since the translations are picked up from translated xml files by the
utility called yelp to view help messages. So, here goes the steps of file
conversion & hence review:
- Make sure you have "kdesdk" package group installed, which provides po2xml
conversion utility
- Download the PO files from transifex status page, for instance
system-config-date-docs.ja.po
- Translate or modify your PO file (when you are reviewing)
- Grab the english XML file from git repo[1] OR from your locally installed one
from "/usr/share/gnome/help/system-config-date/C/system-config-date.xml"
- Convert your PO to xml using "po2xml system-config-date.xml
system-config-date.master-docs.ja.po > system-config-date.ja.xml"
- Place the converted xml file to "sudo cp system-config-date.ja.xml
/usr/share/gnome/help/system-config-date/ja/system-config-date.xml"
- And run system-config-date in your native language. When you click on "Help"
will get you the modified translations.
- That's it.
In short, you need to convert PO to xml file that yelp understands and put it
under right location.
Thanks!

Release Notes errors 06-Oct
by John J. McDonough
I will be building the beta RPM this morning, so and updates you post after
last night won't be included in the RPM. There are still errors in cs-CZ,
zh-CN and zh-TW (as can be seen from the dates of the last successful build
in http://fedora.is-sixsigma.com/F12beta/).
All three languages have multiple errors. When I build overnight the build
stops at the first error. This morning I have been manually building
attempting to identify all the errors. Unfortunately, my fixes are
temporary; if I push my changes they will only be overwritten by the next
push from Transifex.
All of the errors are missing semicolons from &PRODVER; and —
I will continue to allow the cron job to run for a while so you can continue
to see the final result, but I won't be reviewing the logs every morning.

Fwd: Translator metrics in Damned Lies

Just wondering if this could be a good addition to Tx...

Hi
I've talked with Leonardo Fontenelle and he told me an idea to improve
Damned Lies: some translator metrics. Sometimes is useful to see how
many translations a translator have done or how many time the user is
inactive. Maybe it can be useful when we promote translators to
reviewers.
What do you think about that ?

Fedora 12 install-guide screenshots
by Domingo Becker
The new option "autostep --autoscreenshot" in the kickstart file would
probably make it ease to get the localized screenshots included in the
Install Guide.
Don't hesitate to ask translators to get those screenshots.
For Fedora 11 Install Guide they are all in English. We can improve that. :-)
kind regards
