Self-Introduction: Sindre

And now for another boring self-introduction. ^_^ Hi, my name is Sindre Wetjen, and i Live in Oslo, Norway. Currently i am a Student at the University here (University in Oslo), in a IT program called IT-SLP (IT - Language, Logic or Psychology). The best way to describe the program would perhaps be as an AI program. Because of this i also have official training in Java, XHTML/CSS and Lisp (+ some special academic languages). I also have learned some C/C++ on my own, and write Gtk-apps with Gtkmm. One c++/gtkmm project I am currently working on, witch is in a early state, is a program i call Linjap (http://linjap.berlios.de For more info). I have been an Fedora users since Fedora Core 2, and i thought that translation anything i can into my native language (Norwegian) would be a great way to give back to the project that have given me such a great distro for so many years. And that is why i am trying to join the cvsl10n group. Even thou I am new to the translating business, i don't think that the languages will pose a problem for me, since i am a fairly competent in the languages that I will be translating from/to. one of the steps to contribute to translate the fedora site is to visit this page http://translate.fedoraproject.org/teams/ and "if there is a special mailing list for your language. If yes, subscribe to that too" when i clicked on Arabic it gave me '' Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. I think it's fantastic that Fedora gets such solid support from the very top ranks at Red Hat, directly on the company's press site. One thing that is always in the back of my head, as we work through all the various release bits, is that I know on release day Red Hat's CEO -- just like thousands of other people -- is going to download Fedora and take it for a ride. Although Jim singled out some specific areas in his blog that immediately impressed him about Fedora 11, from our phone conversations I know that he's very proud of the work every team in Fedora does. He is genuinely passionate about Fedora, and that's due to *your* superb efforts as part of our large extended family of contributors. Thanks to all of you for making this release such an incredible experience. I hope you enjoy Fedora 11 too, and I'm very excited about working with all of you on Fedora 12! -- Paul W. Publican and Docbook stylesheets

Hi all :) Fedora translators have done incredible work getting Publican's "Common Content" sections into their languages. Due to your efforts, Publican can now support 37 languages other than English [1] Publican also relies on word lists for various languages that are produced by the Docbook project upstream of us [2]. These stylesheet files provide around 150 common words like "chapter", "index", "warning" -- mostly labels and headings that are not part of the text itself. While stylesheets exist for nearly every language for which Fedora documentation exists, there are a small number of exceptions. No stylesheet exists yet for: * Assamese * Malay * Malayalam * Marathi * Sinhalese * Telugu Unfortunately, the nature of these stylesheets makes our usual translation mechanism (through PO files) difficult, since these are really only lists of isolated words, with no context whatsoever, and these words are structured in a way that makes them appear as empty strings in PO files! [3] Finally, development of these stylesheets takes place upstream, and not in the Fedora project itself. With all this in mind, I've put together a spreadsheet of the words that need translating, with some explanatory notes in English, and uploaded it to my fedorapeople page here: http://rlandmann.fedorapeople.org/locale.ods I already have volunteers to help with Malay. Is there anyone who can help out with 150 words in any of the other five languages on the list above? I hope to take any spreadsheets that I receive, transfer the results into properly formatted stylesheets, and get these included into the docbook project upstream. I feel obliged also to mention glibc/localedata/show-ucs-data.c in this context which does inline decoding of the ucs2 I believe. I don't think it is shipped with glibc so one probably has to compile it oneself - so having a portable python implementation is good. Jens
