A question on the L10n Guide wiki page

Hi guys,
Maybe the question has been already discussed in the mailing list.

The L10n guide[1] doesn't include any information on asking the new 
translator to join the cvsl10n group. Does this mean that the new 
translators will no longer need to join that group when they apply for 
fedora accounts?

- be able to translate the wiki.

Yes, fedora account is necessary for the wiki translation.

I mean that according to the guide, the new translator just need to 
complete the FPCA to acquire a valid fedora account, then they can 
edit/translate the wiki pages. Joining the cvsl10n group is not a 
prerequisite when someone wants to be a Fedora Project translator.

It had been requested at Transifex ticket system to integrate FAS login 
(such as OpenID) sometime ago so that users can use same Fedora username 
and password for both logins. The request is not yet accepted, therefore 
separate login is required.

'cvsl10n' group had been used to control the submit permission to Tx 
located at translate.fedoraproject.org run by Fedora, so that sponsors 
of the group (coordinators and selected translators) could 
approve/reject an application for an user. Currently Transifex for 
Fedora has been run by Infidex outside of Fedora Infra, and cvsl10n 
group is no longer used for this purpose.

I believe that Fedora project translation team formed under Transifex 
should have certain procedure for coordinators how to approve/reject an 
application, like the one we used to have and lost...

Now each team coordinator controls the members of his team, without
requiring a global group. Having some standard procedure for this
would be ideal. Noriko, do you happen to have one for the Japanese
team, or something in mind we could put on our wiki?

Currently Japanese team sticks with original procedure, which requires 
Fedora account, introduction mails, etc. For every single application, 
the coordinator (Taira-san) needs to check those prerequisite manually 
atm. We have not found better and working way yet :-(  It would be nice 
to have global procedure which all teams can use.

I believe that there is the way to retrieve multiple PO files at once, 
but I can not find how-to in Documentation page. I like to download all 
POT files under Fedora-Upstream. Could you mind to point?

Hi, works for me… Is your transifex client up to date (in the repo)?

By the way, I am using a script[1] to download all files:
- It helps me to keep track of changes (I've got a master git repo)
- It is used as backup
- I could also commit from there (push) cause I am member of the
translation team

Tu use it, simply copy it somewhere, edit 'MY_LANG=fr' variable to the
requested locale and run:
$ sh get_all.sh --init

If you don't have your ~/.transifexrc file set up, you'lle probably be
asked to enter your transifex credentials, let me know if you get any
error. (If you try it).

Next time (on a cron job?) you only need to tx pull all… by using `sh
get_all.sh` without any arguments.

It tries to get **all.

I like to get fedora-upstream and fedora-main separately.
Tx client is now working for me.
It worked for fedora upstream, but got the error for fedora main.
Any idea?

This error comes from an incorect character in the pot file.

I get that too for fedora-initscripts.default
We need to report that upstream (not done yet).

I have to manually tell each new applicants to read the l10n wiki guide 
by sending them a message through transifex. Then check each of their 
FAS account to make sure they have signed CLA and waiting for their 
introduction in the mailing-lists.

Could we add a intro page for every team of fedora.transifex.net? And 
the content of page can be customized by team coordinator, for example, 
put the l10n guide link there or some details. Or just guide/redirect 
them to finish those prerequisite procedures(register FAS account, sign 
CLA, introduction) when they click the "join this team" button.

By the way,
There is an error when I download zh_CN translation of 
fedora-initscripts. This happens both on website interface and tx client.
 From tx client output, the error detail is:
-> zh_CN: translations/fedora-initscripts.default/zh_CN.po
Exception: Remote server replied: Error compiling the translation file: 
'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xa0 in position 29036: invalid start byte

I guess that may because of some mistake in po file, but when I try to 
download other language translations, the error still happens.

Same thing here, at the Spanish team. We appreciate any type of help,
but we prefer those translators who use Fedora as one of their operating
systems. We used to have some sort of 'warning' post in our overview
page telling all the well-intentioned paratroopers that because of
licensing issues all translators need to open an account in FAS and sign
everything there. But now, with the new interface, that message is gone.
Or perhaps I can't find it.

It will be great if we can make some intro page like the one Tian is
thinking about.

BTW Piotr, Dimitris, Diego, Petr (and everyone else in Tx.net) don't get
me wrong: the new interface is great, especially if you continue in the
direction of replicating our nice and old

I added a link to the Guide on the top of the page here:

We could also show that link on the team pages themselves. We can also
show this link besides the "Request New Team" and "Request to Join
team" buttons. Will that work for you?

The new hub page should be much, much better in this area. You can now
see all the child project resources on the project hub etc.

Hi Dimitris

I'm not sure if just a link to the documentation is enough. I guess it's
similar to "RTFM". A short info text on the team pages would be
appreciated, so that new translators refer to the guide first. I receive
lots of requests without any introduction and if I send them a message
through Transifex I rarely get a response.
