Fedora 21 final release: Main websites translations!

Dear translators,
you probably noticed that I have created a new source on the websites
project in TX, it's called getfedora.org and will replace the actual
fedoraproject.org source.
We are still working on the new websites and don't have really *final
strings* for now. Therefor I decided to keep this source closed at
least until we will have some concrete strings to work on. Of course
we don't want you to the work 3 or 4 times, so once we will have some
concrete strings from the Product WGs/MArketing we will constantly add
new ones to give you the opportunity to organize your work better.

As soon as I open the source I will send out another heads up (also on
TX) to try to reach you all, because websites need a particular
attention for the final release. That's also the reason why I'll
probably close soon the fedoraproject.org master source, so if you
want to fix or complete some particular sections of the main websites,
please do it now.

In the meanwhile I'll try to build the webistes in staging to give you
all the possibility to proofread the strings and to understand better
the context. All this should happen within this week.
For any questions and/or suggestions please don't hesitate and reply
here or ping me or anyone else from the websites team on IRC, we all
want to have a smooth and clean merge into the new websites, although
it will not be that easy.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the overall string content for the
web redesign is *significantly* less than the previous site.  So
translators shouldn't worry that there will be a huge content to
translate in a short time.

the new getfedora.org source is now open for translations on TX, I've
pushed the first strings there right now and will update the POT constantly
till F21 Release Date. As already pointed out by Paul, the strings we will
have on getfedora.org will be significantly less than fedoraproject.org,
therefor I think 3 weeks are a reasonable time to get all the work done.
Actually we don't have a staging instance and are still working on the
layout, but within this week I hope we could have the website running to
give you the possibility to proofread the strings and to understand where
they are and in which context.

Pay attention on some strings which contain line-breaks, the <br /> tag.
Design/Marketing used it to give the slogans a better rythm and to make it
stronger, in the same way it should work for every team's language. Don't
cancel the tags, but place them in the right position for your language and
all will be fine. As said before, once we have the site running you will be
able to review the exact place where it is and could eventually modify it
to make it sound good.

Finally I want to inform you that we are also modifying the content of
spins.fedoraproject.org, so please check also this source from time to time
and update the strings if needed.
In a few days I will also close the fedoraproject.org source, this website
won't have any changes and we want to avoid people working on it any more.
Instead all L10n teams should concentrate their workforce on getfedora.org
and spins.fpo for the next weeks.

new getfedora.org source is not working as expected.

last two weeks before lining up the branch for the F21 websites, which also
means fedoraproject.org will come soon to its end. I closed the
fedoraproject.org source right now, it's not worth anymore to put work into
it. Please check back to getfedora.org for new strings as we are updating
the POT file almost daily now. Most of the strings are already in place, so
don't worry, it can be all done in time also for smaller L10n teams.
Actually we are also trying to run the new pages on staging and will pull
your new po files for the first time in the next hours.

all your po files manually on the staging instance to let you proofread
your tranlsations. I noticed that the <br> tag we have in a few strings has
been translated perfectly, good job.
Some other strings in a few languages seem to be out of context, so please
go through your localized webpages (the language selector on the bottom of
the staging page [1] is working now) and check the text content for any
issues.
We are also working on spins.fedoraproject.org, so don't forget to check
this resource too when translating. There is not much to do, but we have
for example ARM images and a Docker image section on that page [2].
Thanks again for your great work, some of you are very productive and are
already nearly 100%, compliments!

Hi Robert!

I'm happy we finally have a staging instance - we really need that
context to translate correctly. :)

I'm afraid though that fonts don't quite work as intended in my locale
(Polish), or any non-Western Latin-based language. Language-specific
letters (accents, etc.) not covered by the chosen font are rendered
using a fallback font, which stands out badly and makes us look
unprofessional:

I hope there is something you can do with that issue, like switching
to a font with better Unicode coverage.

Piotr,
we are still working on the pages, so there are for sure many strings we
didn't push yet to TX or are not marked for I18n.
The staging instance is intended actually to get the context of the strings
you have on TX.

I will have a look on the font issue, thanks for reporting that.

What do you mean by the browser configuration? I've never changed any
font/language settings. I tested the website in Firefox on Fedora, as
well as Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows 7, all with the
default options for Polish locale, and additionally on a fresh
Firefox/Fedora profile run with LANG=C. The problem occurred every
time.

Dear all,
as you probably know we are going to release F21 next tuesday (december
9th), so there is not much time left to translate the new webpage
getfedora.it.
Some teams have been very active and are at 100%, many others are still
behind their normal standards. We have about 250 strings more or less, so
it is still possible to translate it all, even if you haven't started yet.
It would be nice to have the pages all translated in your local language ;)
Although we are pulling the po files once a day, I'll do another manual
update of the translation files just before pushing the website live at
release time, so we will get in also all your last minute strings.
Thanks again for all your work and your patience.

There is new strings? Las weekend Spanish was at 100% for gerfedora and
spins, getfedora now show 70% and there is 73 strings to translate, it is
not a big problems, on or two ours, but there will be more changes to the
websites?

Yes, sorry for that :(
Actually the strings are 99% final, I don't know if there will be any
changes in the next 5 days, but if yes, then only slight changes for very
few strings. So don't worry, we should be all set now.

Ok, but, what will hapen to that site?

Will it be available somewhere else for translations?

Fedora 21 is planned to be released on next tuesday. It would be nice
to have the main website fully translated.

As I said we won't build this site, so just translate getfedora and
spins.fpo and you will be fine.
