Transifex and Damn Lies

Hi translators!

We have been experiencing some maintenance on TX and DL.
No need to mention as everyone knows, tremendous effort is on it's way.

The question may come up in mind, 'then what to do? I can't contribute
till then?' The answer is 'yes, you can.'

If you encounter any error in TX, please submit your translated file via
bugzilla just like filing a bug.

I just temporarily disabled msgfmt checks, so submissions should work
now through Transifex.

Everyone should now CHECK MANUALLY every file about to be submitted using:

msgfmt -c myfile.po

Short answer: No.

The infrastructure team gets notified if the application is not responding 
through the regular monitoring systems. But the application being up and 
running does not mean that all is ok within the application.

(If something goes wrong, the poor sucker experiencing this would have to 
notify the maintainers. The maintainers can then look at a log file that may or 
may not give a hint to where the problem is).

From non-techy translator perspective, it seems a bit of risk relying 
on translators to run 'msgfmt' for integrity just before every commit. 
Some (or maybe 'many'?) translators may easily forget to do so. It would 
be safer to submit at Bugzilla manually till it fix.

I just committed paprefs and it seems to work fine as well. Thanks for
fixing this, it was holding some important pt_BR translations.

I still have some problem with Fedora Hosted modules, but accordingly to
Diego this is not related to the "msgfmt" issue.

Uploads seems to work, but changes are still not reflected on the
upstream VCS after 12h. Is it a normal behaviour for Transifex?

If the update does not show up on the upstream repository immediately after 
you submit, that must be a bug in transifex.

Is this relating to translations of PulseAudio Preferences?

Automatic syntax checking has been enabled again in Transifex.

Badly structured PO files can, once again, be submitted freely.
They'll all be ruthlessly rejected.

Yes, in case now and then the error occurs due to **known** issue, 
submitting PO files to Bugzilla should work.

Great. Can you refer me to a BZ a developer has picked up a translation via BZ? I want to use that as an example of Plan B and get some commentary from the developer. - Mike

I just created the sample bug.

Here is the step.
A bug is automatically assigned to the maintainer of the component 
chosen, so no need to know who is the maintainer.

1. Go to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/
2. Click 'New' located top left to create new bug.
3. Select Fedora Product -> Fedora
4. Choose component which the translation made
5. Fill 'subject' and 'comment'
6. Submit as new bug
7. Go back to that bug, and click 'Add an attachment' at Attachment section
8. Click 'browse' button and locate your file
9. Fill 'description'
10. Submit

Right, this plan B is the 'traditional' way in open source to send
patches/contributions from people with no commit access to the source.
Transifex is just a tool that added a more efficient plan A when we
noticed that a lot of Fedora modules were being hosted on non-CVS
systems.

So, when we're having issues (like for example when a project isn't
registered on Tx, or its setup isn't working or the translator is
simply a non-Fedora one), we fall back to the regular way of doing
things: bug reports.

A plan C could be to upload files to a specific location where all
translators have access to (eg. on cvs.fedoraproject.org:/cvs/l10n).
Then the developer can be notified with a bug report to pick up his
files just prior of packaging for a release.

This time a person from Debian without commit access (actually,
without access to Transifex) attached a file on a bug report and a
person with commit access (through Transifex!) went on to submit it.
