New project: multimedia-menus

Hello dear translators,

You may have heard my noise about this project in the past couple
weeks. Everything is set up now (thanks to Dimitris, Asgeir and Piotr)
in transifex and 22 short strings are waiting for translation.

Even before I made this announcement, Spanish and Polish translations
were finished thanks to Piotr and Domingo. You guys are lightning
fast! I appreciate it.

This project is an F-12 feature so it would be very nice if we could
get as much translation as we can, before the string freeze deadline.
It should take a translator no more than 10-15 minutes to complete.

Why this package belongs to 'Various' collection but not 'Fedora 12' 
collection?

Good question. I don't have the answer. I am very new to translation
side of Fedora. But from what I can tell (I have contributed to many
parts of Fedora), this is the most organized one :)
I see that the string freeze has passed and I was late. That might be
the reason why it is not included in Fedora 12 collection. I don't
know how to or if I am allowed to include it in. Do I need to ask for
a freeze break?

That's because Fedora-XX collections are what they are just by the
traditional Core-Extras principle. I can move multimedia-menus to Fedora
12 at any time if you want it.

Although we need to start a discussion about how to organize our
translations. Are we going to still use rules abandoned by the rest of
the project or we will figure out some new? Only about 5 of over 60
components of Fedora-XX are using proper branches. Some of Fedora-XX
packages are not strictly following our freeze policies, and some of
Various are, even if they are not hosted on our servers. Websites were
separated from software some time ago, and they are branched as well.

Good point. I remember that during F10 or F11 a prioritized module
list was created, which is useful for smaller teams to focus on the
most important components. For instance, we focus on the Fedora-12
packages and then try to have as much of various as possible,
especially the essentials (pulseaudio, packagekit, yum, rpm). I'd like
to have packages clearly grouped by such criteria. For instance, I
don't think docs are as much a priority as UI menus, since having a
full menu untranslated is very visible for a daily user, whereas user
doc is not used that often.

Please help translators focusing on the most important components!

here is my proposal, based on my experience with a small translation
team and limited resources::

Essential
-------------

- Anaconda installer, and translations of components that will be
invoked during installation.
- System applications and menus (almost all from f-12, rpm, yum,
packagekit, pulseaudio). In a nutshell: the translations of those
packages that will always be installed in any Fedora system by default
(so the user will surely see these strings). Some packages in f-12 are
not installed by default (system-config-cluster?)
- Web pages of fedoraproject.org (where most people will go for info on fedora)
- App docs (not viewed as often as the UI of the app, but important
for non-english users)

Optional
------------
- Web pages of other projects (fh.org...)
- Apps not commonly used, optional, not essential (virtualization...)
- Release notes

But basically it can be broken down into 2 categories: "Essential",
"optional"

No matter the organisation that prevails, it would be nice to have a
single page to see only the untranslated modules to be included in the
next release, probably sorted by priority.
Currently, we have to navigate through 5 different pages of the Fedora
collection. And it takes some time to visit them all.
If we are working on F12 release, if something new for translation
appears in F11 we may simply forget to visit that page, and break
translations of a successful release (because of the usual fuzzy
strings). On the other hand, in various [1] there is a PackageKit
package which is very important for a new release. I don't remember if
it was in F10 release that I realised about that, when I saw that the
software for installing new packages was still in English (imagine my
face, :-o  :-s), and in the Spanish Team we usually have at a 100% the
page for a release [2].

Done for Catalan :). Short question: is there a LINGUAS file that
needs to be modified to add the locale as supported? If not, how can
we be sure that the translated strings will be included?

Thanks for the translation!

Shortly before the F-12 final freeze, I'll make a new tarball from
what we have so far and that will go to F-12. If more translations
come after this deadline, they will get pushed to the updates repo
with a newer RPM.

I am not familiar with LINGUAS file. Does it matter if we have it or not?

Actually it's not mandatory, however when using intltool the usual
thing is to have a LINGUAS file, but it depends on how you automatize
your building process. I just wanted to double-check that your build
process will include ca.po without any further help from my side.
