This machine has been out of use for a while. It appears as of xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.8.0-14.fc9.i386 / kernel-2.6.25.14-108.fc9.i686 this seems to have been fixed. But it wasn't updated for a while so I don't know that these were the first versions to fix it.
