--- Comment #66 from Lars E. Pettersson <lars(a)homer.se> 2011-11-14 03:23:03 EST ---
Just did an update of Fedora 16 on a x86_64 machine and got the same message:
Updating : kernel-tools-3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64 13/26
Installing : kernel-3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64 14/26
grubby fatal error: unable to find a suitable template
Cleanup : kernel-headers-3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64 15/26
(no further errors showed up)
This was the first kernel update on my Fedora 16 installation, updated from
kernel 3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64 to 3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64 using the following grub
packages:
# rpm -qa grub*
grub-efi-0.97-84.fc16.x86_64
grub2-1.99-12.fc16.x86_64
grubby-8.3-1.fc16.x86_64
#
And the following templates (verified OK with rpm -V)
# ll /etc/grub.d/
total 80

The only strange thing noted in /etc/grub2.cfg was the lack of the recovery
mode entry:
# grep menuentry /etc/grub2.cfg
menuentry 'Fedora (3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64)' --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class
os {
menuentry 'Linux, with Linux 3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64' --class gnu-linux --class gnu
--class os {
menuentry 'Linux, with Linux 3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64 (recovery mode)' --class
gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
menuentry "Microsoft Windows XP Professional (on /dev/sda2)" --class windows
--class os {
(/etc/grub2.cfg will be attached)
