Thanks, Erwin, for the reply. I have tried a couple of things based on the good responses from this list. I now have 2 queues defined on the server. One is called HP841C and it is intended to be used for printing from the server. It is defined with the correct driver for the HP841C printer. The other queue on the server is called HP841C_SHARED and it is set up as a raw queue. I used the Redhat printer config tool to set this latter queue as shared. The first queue is not shared. On the laptop, when I look in CUPS (http://localhost:631) I can see both printers, but I cannot print to either. If I try to print a test page to the HP841C_SHARED queue it prints many pages of junk, like what you would expect when the driver is wrong. If I try to create a queue on the laptop (via CUPS) and point it at the HP841C_SHARED queue on the server, using any of the protocols that are listed (ipp, lpr, etc., - I've tried every one), I cannot print a test page at all. When I try, I get various messages listed on the CUPS printer page, such as "Remote host did not accept control file (112)". I am very confused by the fact that I need to use the Redhat printer config tool for some portion of this process, and the CUPS web interface for others. I don't understand how these two tools play together. And, the main problem remains. I cannot yet print from my laptop. I can print from the server, but nothing I do lets me print from the laptop. If there is any additional information I can provide to this list that will help get this resolved, please let me know what I need to share. nvidia thoughts

Hi all! I know that nvidia is evil with releasing their drivers only in binary format and so on. But my thoughts regarding that: I have never ever been abe to install any redhat graphically with a geforce card (tried geforce 2 mx, geforce 2 go, geforce 4 ti 4200, different monitors, different computers, btw: a tnt2 worked without problems), neither 8.0 nor 9 nor fedora. After the text based install I've never been able to get X to run. I always had to get the binary nvidia drivers to get X to run. While I don't think it's to bad to have to download them for 3d acceleration, I think it's bad if even 2d doesn't work with the nv-drivers. There has to be some reolution for this. Anaconda recognises my graphic card and my monitor just before trying to start X. Then it fails and just tells me to reboot. :( The switch to fb-mode works btw. I thought that was a graphics mode as well. Wouldn't that be a possibility to allow graphical install? Redistribution of the nvidia-driver is allowed. Wouldn't it be possible (perhaps as an extra ISO-image or whatever) to allow the use of the binary driver from installation on? I understand that RedHat cannot support that driver but as it's now fedora and that isn't supported anyway, support issues shouldn't be a concern, or am I wrong there? Trying to run UT2003 and I get this error... preventing it from working. DO have the nvidia drivers installed and they are working ( Neverwinter nights, torcs, tuxracer & frozen bubble all work ) IT DID work fine on Redhat 9.... infact using my XF86Config from that very same install. gdm...I must be stupid.

i've gotta be stupid for not knowing this BUT i just installed XFce4 and i cant add it to my gdm menu during the graphical login. i've tried putting it in my /etc/X11/gdm/Sessons but it won't show up. Sorry for such an easy question ;-) Thanks Ryan

Hello. My answer is about packages in fedora. 1)Why dictd package is still 1.5.5? The latest version is 1.9.7. Look at ftp://ftp.dict.org/pub/dict/. 2)Why you do not include aspell-ru package? There are aspell-fr, aspell-en, aspell-it But there is no aspell-ru. There is such package look at http://aspell.net With regards, Evgeney.

Boot Loader Detection: GRUB or LILO?
