redhat-config-xfree86 error
by Satish Balay
I get the following error - when I use redhat-config-xfree86 and
change any settings - and click 'ok'.
>>>
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/redhat-config-xfree86/xConfigDialog.py", line 250, in ok
self.xconfig.monitor.remove(1)
IndexError: index out-of-bounds
>>>
Dones anyone else see this?
This is on a thinkpad T40 (with radeon 9000). I've started off with
test 2 install and ever since keep updating to rawhide. I have updated
Xfree86 packages ftp://people.redhat.com/mharris/testing at one point
of time - but I think this stuff is now in rawhide as well..
[asterix]: rpm -q redhat-config-xfree86
redhat-config-xfree86-0.9.13-1
[asterix]: rpm -q XFree86
XFree86-4.3.0-40
Thanks,
Satish

75x75 font default not acceptable
by Felix Miata
xft is new to me. I can't find in man pages for xinit or startx what
needs to be put where in xinitrc or anywhere else so that 'xdpyinfo |
grep resolution' gives me 100x100 instead of 75x75. If I were using
startx, -dpi 100 could be used on the command line, but a normal Fedora
install isn't set up to require a user to run startx from the command
line. Can someone please either tell me what to put where, or point me
to adequate documentation?

I see the message in the fedora-test archive. But I don't see where in
grub.conf one would specify the "rhgb" option. Would someone care to provide
a little detail?
Thanks!

mozilla: no language packs as root
by Christoph Wickert
Hi everybody!
Maybe someone ran into this problem, too.
* Install a custom version of mozilla (1.5 in my case), ether tarball or
from the mozilla-seamonkey-releases
(http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/yum/SeaMonkey/releases/cur...)
* Open mozilla as root, go to http://mozilla.org, get the language pack
and exit mozilla.
* Start mozilla again and go to Preferences -> Appearance ->
Languages/Content: The Language pack seems no installed.
* Start mozilla as user and everything is fine: You can change the
language.
Just wondering... I know that I *should* not run mozilla as root. :-)

mount --bind
by Carlos Rodrigues
Hi!
I intend to mount a directory in another location with "mount --bind"
and I wanted to know if there is a way to automate this by putting it
somewhere like /etc/fstab. I can put it in /etc/init.d/rc.local but I
would rather do this in a more "elegant" way.

Yum Notes
by Charles Curley
It works better if you attach the URL. Thank you, Doncho N. Gunchev,
for pointing this out. Doh.
http://www.charlescurley.com/yum.html
I've had an interruption in email service, so I may not see all the
comments folks have posted to this (if any :-).
I've taken my notes on building a yum repsitory and expanded them to
include notes on upgrading using a yum repository. I have not yet released
document under the GDFL, but will do so when it is in suitable shape
for release. I would appreciate your comments on the notes.
yum list readers: I'm not on the yum list, so please CC me with your
comments.
Thanks

Maybe someone answered this already (I'm reading the list in digest form
at the moment). anyway, OpenOffice.org also creates a file named .sversionrc
in which it records the version and location of the directory used for
user preferences. Check the contents of this file. It's probably safe to
remove it and restart the latest updated OOo version (which will then
recreate this file with the currently correct info).
