Mouse speed
by Jon Smirl
I'm up2date on the Rawhide chaneel. Did something just change in mouse
processing? Two days ago I could move my mouse two inches and the cusor would
cross the screen. Now I need to move it six inches. I tried playing with
acceleration settings, etc.
Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse. USB - plugged in with adapter to PS/2 port.

Ok maybe you can clear this up for me. The printer is named portia.
If I choose: Networked Unix (LPD) queue type the queue name raw seems
to work but nothing prints, the queue name portia prints, the queue
name auto gets the following error: There was a problem sending US
Letter PostScript test page
to 'portia' queue:
lpr: unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable
If I use Networked CUPS (IPP) the queue name comes up as
/printers/queue1 and I have no idea what to put there. Can you tell me?

Yum Notes
by Charles Curley
I've taken my notes on building a yum repsitory and expanded them to
include notes on upgrading using a yum repository. I have not yet released
document under the GDFL, but will do so when it is in suitable shape
for release. I would appreciate your comments on the notes.
yum list readers: I'm not on the yum list, so please CC me with your
comments.

CUPS nightmare
by Bill Johnson
I have a home network configured as follows:
Server - running Fedora Core .95 beta.
Laptop - running Redhat 8.0
Connected via Netgear RP114(?) web safe router
Printer is HP841C connected to Server via usb
Printing from laptop worked fine under previous config (Redhat 7.3 was on
previously on server, and printing was via lpd), but I cannot get printing
to work from laptop now.
Cups is installed on server and printer works fine when printing from
server.
Printer has been configured on laptop every possible way, but will not
print. Have read google posts, howtos, and cups docs for 2 days, but
nothing works.
nmap shows port 631 on server, but DOES NOT show it on laptop. Firewalls
are completely off on both laptop and server.
Question 1 - Are there issues with doing this in fedora? Am I hitting
some known problem with the beta?
Question 2 - Can I just abandon CUPS and use the old lpd? It worked
perfectly for me, and was not difficult to configure. I can't seem to
find it on the new distro. Is it not provided with fedora?
Question 3 - Is the NETGEAR router a possible problem? Could it be
blocking visibility to port 631? Any suggestions about that if so?
Question 4 - Is there anybody on this list who has managed to get a
similar printing scenario up and running?
Thanks in advance for the help. Getting a printer to work should not be
this difficult. I must be doing something terribly wrong, but can't
figure it out. Obviously, if I can't print with fedora, I can't use
fedora, so I must resolve this.

Bill Johnson

Palm | Gnome-Pilot | Pilot-Xfer
by Met @ Uber
Well I've finally gotten my palm to sync, but only for backup purposes
using pilot-xfer. Every time I try gnome-pilot it crashes. It just
sits there and does nothing at all. Any ideas or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. I'm not even sure how to go about debugging this.

Latest up2date problem
by Philip Balister
I installed the gnome development packages. Up2date noticed some needed to be
upgraded. Now up2date hangs when the "Fetching obsoletes list ..." box
shows 100% complete.

ACL's this time around
by David.Grudek@anixter.com
Why are ACL's not inputted into the distro yet? It seems that they are
stable by now so it would be nice if they were in.

I clicked system settings -> display. A password dialog came up. I
filled in the root password and hit OK. Then nothing. How do I change
dpi from 75 to 100?

up2date woes again!!
by Ernest L. Williams Jr.
Hi
Can't we get the up2date working correctly?
I am now about to install Fedora Test 3 for the third time.
This time I am reluctant to try the up2date since it keeps bombing out on installing openoffice. Not only does it bomb on openoffice everything else is screwed up. Nothing works now since especially X; up2date somehow corrupted the following file --- "libSM.so.6" Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
Should I only update the kernel and leave openoffice alone?
PS: The up2date for my Laptop went smooth except for the it hanging on installing emacs.
