smb-shares
by Sturla Holm Hansen
I'm having probles when using nautilus to browse smb-shares, either on
another linux-box or on a windoze-box, it takes ages to connect, then
I'm asked for a password and then it takes ages again.
Finally I get a list of the shares on the box, when double-clicking one
of them it takes ages AGAIN, but when I'm finally inside a share things
seem to be working fine....
Any ideas?

Problem mounting FAT32 hard drive
by AL
Any thoughts on this? I have a second hard drive located at HDD and it is a
single partition 80GB drive. When I try to mount it as root I get the error
"mount: fs type fat not supported by kernel." I currently have fat support
loaded as a module. It shows up when I do lsmod, but its not in the kernel.
At least it doesn't show up when I do a "cat /proc/filesystems."
Am I missing something?

fuzzy fontness
by Sean Middleditch
Hi all,
Redhat9 gave me very crisp, clear fonts. Updating to Rawhide, I
noticed they got rather fuzzy - the AA isn't as good. I'm running an
LCD, and I _do_ have sub-pixel smoothing on. (Same setting as we/
RH9.) Using the Vera fonts in GNOME.
Before I start filing bugs and all that, thought I'd check if anyone
else noticed this behaviour/change - if not, then I guess I need to
figure out what changed so drastically in my setup...
Thanks all!

Disabling feature in Metacity
by Aaron_Morales@eogresources.com
Could someone please point me in the right direction? I need to find out
how to disable the window redraw feature in RH8.0's Metacity? This feature
dramatically reduces performance when used in conjunction with high-res GIS
images. Should you have to resize the window while that feature is enabled,
it redraws over an over again until it reaches the desired window size. On
sawfish, there was a way to disable that from the front end but I can't
find where you would do that on Metacity. Can someone please help?
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Constant annoying redraws in gtk app
by Jack Bowling
I have an app, Snd, the venerable sound editor, which can be compiled either with the openmotif or the gtk libraries. I prefer the gtk libs but it displays a very annoying tendency to redraw the app display everytime you move another window across it or do *anything* with the screen. The openmotif compile, OTOH, is lightning fast with none of these tendencies.
My question: would this be a factor of how Snd itself is coded (the source readme does admit that the gtk port needs a lot of work), or is it a facet of the Metacity WM on my RH8 box?

Diskdruid
by Kjetil Mikkelborg
HI
I was just wondering if redhat has any plans for making diskdruid or a
tool like it availble after install also?
I tried to google at the subject, and found a replay for redhat that
stated that they looked at parting diskdruid from the installer, but no
more info than that (and this was in 2001).
Anyone who can give any clues?

doughnuts on a fish hook
by Troy Dawson
Howdy,
It's been said that this question get's asked at least once a day. Well,
here's the daily question, but with the reason's I'm asking it.
When is the web page going to be updated?
From the sounds of the standard reply, it sounds like it isn't going to be
updated for at least 3 more weeks.
You know what, that's not good enough.
I don't even care if the web page is updated saying it isn't going to be
updated for 3 weeks, there has to be something.
Why?
Because the ending of the errata for the RedHat 7.3 release is comming closer,
really close actually. My management wants to know what we're going to do
about it. Buying the Enterprise stuff is not an option.
We were just starting work on alternatives when the RHL web page went up. All
our work stopped and we started shifting over to maybe working with the RedHat
community. But ... well as everyone knows, that got pulled out. A mailling
list is not a community.
My management is not going to accept my answer that 'I read it from some
redhat guy on the mailling list' they want to see it on a web page. A policy
isn't a policy if it's only on some mailling list. (I know that isn't
entirely true, but think of it from managements perspective)
So, we have basically turned and are looking for different alternatives again.
That includes different distributions. That's not a threat, it's just
something we have to look at because RedHat is no longer (at least in
appearance) giving us what we need.
So ... I've aired my grievance ... I feel a bit better, but I would still like
the question answered because I keep getting asked the same question over and
over.
Thanks
Troy Dawson

Hi,
Current rawhide in fact has wireframe resize (the setting is
called reduced_resources, set it to TRUE).

Multimedia keys
by Emmanuel Seyman
Trying to figure out how to set up the multimedia keys of my keyboard,
I found out that Gnome comes with acme, an application designed to
do just that. I was wondering why this isn't in Severn or Rawhide.
Is there any way to configure this otherwise (via metacity?) ?
