RE: 3ware 9000 Series SATA Raid and Fedora Core 2 ?
by Omar Castañeda Acosta
Erwin:
You'll need to create a file system on the array then specify its mount point on /etc/fstab. For big file systems I would recommend either reiserfs or xfs (it's up to you), remember that you may need to modify your intial ramdisk again.
mkfs -t (xfs|reiserfs|ext3) /dev/sdb
or
create a partition (or several partitions) on /dev/sdb
mkfs -t (xfs|reiserfs|ext3) /dev/sdb1
The add the following line to fstab
/dev/sdb /mountpoint xfs|reiserfs|ext3 defaults 1 1
Or
/dev/sdb1 /mountpoint xfs|reiserfs|ext3 defaults 1 1
/mountpoint can be any folder, /home is a good options unless your /home is already full of stuff)
For sharing the obvious choice is samba. Just add a share in smb.conf for the /mountpoint and you'll be ready to go.

And this initial ramdisk is really used and not the older one with the other
3ware module? I ask because /boo/initrd/ is not a default path that Fedora
uses. It works but you have to be sure the path to the initrd.img file in
the grub.conf matches this path. The default path - used in /etc/grub.conf -
is /boot/initrd-2.6.8-1.521smp.img.
Alexander
/etc/grub.conf contains
Initrd /initrd-2.6.8-1.521smp.img
I made the ramdisk again with
/sbin/mkinitrd -v - f /boot/initrd-2.6.8-1.521smp.img 2.6.8-1.521smp
All went well and there were some messages saying the 3w-9xxx module is used
After a reboot /dev/sdb is stil there !
After shutdown/power off/power on, everything still ok !
In /etc/sysconfig/hwconf there is
driver: 3w-xxxx
That's also what I see when using the hardware browser GUI, but it seems to
work anyway.
Thanks a lot to everybody who helped me out on this.
It's a nice experience to meet people who are willing to help without having
to pay them. I've learned a lot from your answers.
Now I'm going to find out how to mount the array to my file system and share
it with a windows client. I guess this will not be my last message :-).

FC2 kernel with inotify (i686)
by Ben Konrath
Hi,
I whipped up a kernel rpm for FC2 with inotify (i686). The patch
seemed to apply cleanly and I've been using it for the past day
without problems. I'll try to keep them updated if people
are interested.
The RPMs can be found at:

Selecting boot drive from BIOS
by Steve
Hi,
Here's a strange question, that I wonder if anyone has tried...
I have 2 physical drives. Currently XP is on the master. Can I set my
BIOS to boot from the slave before the master, where I would have
Fedora installed? This would negate any need to configure GRUB (ie.
would not need to put it on the master's MBR). Then, if I needed to
boot into XP, just reboot and modify the BIOS...
Thanks for any help or opinions...

postfix with mysql rpm?
by Lonnie Cumberland
Hello All,
I have been trying for some time now to get a version of postfix with
mysql compiled but seem to have some problems with getting everything in
the right place.
Does someone have one already compiled up int an rpm that I could get?
I want to set up a virtual SMTP, IMAP, and POP server that users can
connect to using something like Windows Outlook or Eudora and allow for
the addition of virtual users. I have found some good articles on the
subject like:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/virt-mail-howto.xml
but am having troubles getting it set up.
Any suggestions, or alternate solutions for a virtual-email accounts
server, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Lonnie

Error on starting SASL and STARTTLS
by antonio.nunes@lifefoundation.plus.com
Hi,
I've just tried to get secure smtp going on port 25 with sendmail on a
Fedora Core 2 server. After ironing out some initial problems there seems
to be one last I can't resolve. I can't get TLS to actually work. The
sendmail log show the following:

Sep 28 17:27:51 mail sendmail[8691]: STARTTLS=server: file

I've tried making the sasl2 directory and the certs directory only
writable by root but to no avail. The files listed in sasl2 are linked and
the symbolic links do not seem to want to change with chown whatever I
try.
I'd much appreciate it if anybody could help me out here.
Kind regards,
