slattach returns "no such device or address" FC2
by Rob Cartier
I was unhappily greeted after upgrading from FC1 to FC2 that slip support
was removed from distributed kernel. So I attempted to add support for slip
in a new custom kernel
I was greeted with
/sbin/slattach -s 38400 -p slip /dev/ptype
slattach: tty_open(/dev/ptype, RW): No such device or address
while I now have slip support in the kernel since I see the slip.ko module
now in my /lib/modules directory I cant seem to get past this error
any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Installing JBuilderX: libstdc++-libc error
by A.J. Bonnema
Hi all,
Anyone out there installed the JBuilderX enterprise version? I installed
it succesfully, but got the following error message:
jbuilder: error while loading shared libraries:
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file
or directory
Jbuilder8 gave a comparable error.
Now, I can't find the file on my filesystem anywhere (or on the CD) and
using rpmfind, can't find any reference to it.
Using google I got a reference to a RedHat 8 user, who was advised to
add to ld.so.conf and run ldconfig, which would be usefull if I could
find the file.
I am running FC2 (using up2date to keep up2date), kernel untainted.
Can anyone help me find the solution to the error?
Guus.

Using Hylafax
by Slade Hornick
OK - hopefully someone can help out here - I have messed with this too long.
I installed Hylafax and here is my setup.
Fedora Core 2
External model /dev/ttyS1
I can: echo atdt {phone number} >/dev/ttyS1
And the modem will dial.
I can dial out using minicom as well. So I know the modem is working and is
/dev/ttyS1.
Back to Hylafax:
I have ran faxaddmodem ttyS1 and the program probes my modem and finds all
the information that it needs and ask several setup questions and runs
completely through.
I believe faxgetty is running, here is my output of a faxstat command.
[root@fedora root]# faxstat
HylaFAX scheduler on fedora.txfb.org: Running
Modem ttyS1 (254.751.2265): Running and idle
However - Hylafax will not send anything out. I try and do a simple example
to another fax machine and get the following
[root@fedora /]# sendfax -n -d 9,7723628 /etc/passwd
request id is 19 (group id 19) for host localhost (1 file)
[root@fedora /]# faxstat -s
HylaFAX scheduler on fedora.txfb.org: Running
Modem ttyS1 (254.751.2265): Running and idle
JID Pri S Owner Number Pages Dials TTS Status
19 127 W root 9,7723628 0:0 0:12
It acts like it is going to work - but never sends the fax. What I'm I
missing here?
Thanks
Slade Hornick

alsa failures on 2.6.6* kernels
by Brad Clawsie
i have been able to use alsa-driven utilities reliably on the stock
FC2 2.6.5 kernel, although on the recent upgrade to the 2.6.6* series
i have not been able to get any sound out of alsa-driven utilities,
although non-alsa sound utilities (xmms, realplayer 10 beta) are all
functioning correctly.
i have checked that all applicable channels are unmuted via alsamixer.
my driver is snd-emu10k1 for the sound blaster live card, which once
again functions correctly under the stock FC2 kernel. i have confirmed
and repeated my issue with the system-config-soundcard utility.
any clues?
thanks

streaming mp3's and users
by brian connolly
Greetings all.
This is a small nit. In root admin, my mozilla can readily play web
steaming mp3's; however, users cannot. Anyway, I am thinking it is a
file permission (why I am posting here). I am thinking that it is
trying to stream/write to a folder it does not have access to.
Thoughts?
Kind regards,
Brian

nautilus & smb shares
by serge pynte
I upgraded to the latest kernel now that nvidia driver was updated.
I read here that upgrading to latest kernel would resolve the nautilus
smb shares browsing issue but I'm still not able to browse the smb
shares with nautilus .
I always have to mount the shares first to be able to browse them and I
do not like that for security reasons and also it is not a nice solution
that way.
Any solution on that ?

/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/bin/translator line 5.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/translator line 5.
I installed all the perl modules needed . I also installed the
IO::String perl module but perl doesnt find scalar.pm. And I can't find
it with find neather.
Any sujestions?
(gnome translator worked well on fc1)
But I don't think this is a FC2 problem here.
Maybe it is not the right place to ask this but do not know where else I
could ask.
