SP2 vs MBR????

Has anyone installed the Windows XP SP2 update on a dual boot RedHat Linux/Windows XP box? Does the process of applying the SP2 update overwrite GRUB in the MBR? I have some RedHat Linux machines running dual boot with the Promise RAID drivers under both RAID drivers under both Linux and Windows XP. So I am leary of installing SP2 if it is going to nuke the GRUB in the MBR requiring me to resort to the Linux rescue disk and Promise driver floppy to reinstall GRUB. I would rather not go through that. Thanks in advance for any information on this. Jack

Un-silly gimp question

Greetings; A while back, a bad puppy named yum replaced my gimp install with gimp-2.0. Obviously that breaks printing from the gimp. Whats the official fix since Robert tells me gimp-print-5.0.0 is not stable yet. It sort of works, but the quality really, really sucks compared to the older versions. Yum UPDATE vs UPGRADE

Replacing Xaw shared libs w/ Xaw3d libs under FC2?

Hi folks, Under earlier distributions, I've always been able to replace the Xaw shared libs with the equivalent Xaw3d libs. This is a quick way of prettying up some older X applications (xterm, xcalc, xfig, etc.) For some reason, this doesn't seem to work under FC2. Normally, I'd just do this: mv libXaw.so.7.0 /some/where/safe/ cp -f libXaw3d.so.7.0 libXaw.so.7.0 ldconfig -v and, voila!, xterm gets a 3-d scroll bar. Under FC2 though, xterm complains that it can't find libXaw.so.7. It turns out that ldconfig is indeed failing to create the symbolic link from libXaw.so.7 to libXaw.so.7.0. Creating the link by hand doesn't solve the problem, though. Typing 'ldd /usr/bin/xterm' still shows libXaw.so.7 as missing. At first I thought it might be a problem with prelinking, so I did a 'prelink -u /usr/bin/xterm'. That didn't seem to make any difference. Has anybody successfully replaced Xaw with Xaw3d in this manner under FC2? How to read BIOS ?

Is there a means of reading the data from the BIOS chip. primarily the i.d. string showing the version, etc. other than relying on the initial "CMOS" set-up function? [Something like the belarc.com Windows app.] Google, etc. have not found anything ... Thank you. Bob Goodwin Zuni, Virginia

FC2 static routing problem

I am having an issue with a FC2 box and static routing. I have put in a static route to a destination, but when I do a traceroute, it still sends it to the default gateway. I have done a 'route -Cn' and checked the route cache, and the route cache shows the correct destination. The only network modification that I have done is to include 'alias net-pf-10 off' to the modprobe.conf file to turn off ipv6. Has anyone seen this before? ip-down and ip-down.local problem

hi, i installed FC2 and for some odd reason /etc/ppp/ip-down and ip-down.local aren't being called when i run adsl-stop. ip-up and ip-up.local work just fine. could anyone help? regards, Sam. -- Who's the better killer?
