RE: FC3, Apache, and Front Page
by Randy L. Justice
Thanks for all your advice... I see it can be done...
Many people asked "why FrontPage"... Well to make a long story short.. I
don't have a choice..
Thanks again...
All have been a great source of information...

How do they allow you to publish pages to their site? If by ftp, there are
a lot of tools that can manage that.
If by webdav, then at least Quanta+ works. Screem appears to work as well,
but I'm not as fond of the Screem interface. I don't know if any of the
WYSIWYG page editors work with webdav.
Speaking of WYSIWYG page editors, there are at least three that I know of.
NVU - see www.nvu.com
Mozilla Composer - see www.mozilla.org
OpenOffice Writer/Web - see www.openoffice.org
That said, I don't like any of them. In particular, the handling of
<div></div> is very poor. At best, you'll get absolutely positioned
divisions which is a bane for liquid designs.
Also, they generate at best transitional HTML (not strict or XHTML).
The end result is sloppy (possibly non-compliant) HTML that may not work the
same in all browsers.
I alternate between Bluefish and jEdit. Neither are WYSIWYG.
Just my opinion . . . .

Network Drive Mounting Issue
by Chris Graham
This may seem like a newbie question, but I'm new to FC3 and I have been
looking for hours through the man pages with no luck, but is there a
good way in the shell or GNOME to mount a network drive to the system?
The drive I need to access requires a logon and is running under a
Windows XP partition, although whether it's FAT32 or NTFS I'm not sure.
Thanks,
Chris

Testing apps on dual booting machine.
by M.Rudra
Hello List ,
Currently I use FC-1 and also have a dual boot machine with win-XP.
My question :
I have not programmed with Linux, but would like to. So if i create a
seperate *user* and download any linux application under development
to fiddle with, will it crash my dual boot or linux box ?
I had read a few articles/blogs about problems with
testing/programming on a dual booting FC and XP machine. I dont want
that problem :-) as i wouldnt know how to fix it.
This is my home PC - I use it for regular stuff (music, email,
browsing, office apps, other stuff...) and yet I want it to be
stable....
Any suggestions/info/ideas welcome..
thanks..MR

Removing a "busy" text file?
by Richard S. Crawford
I began to rip a CD using KAudioCreator. Halfway through, I realized that I'd
put in the wrong filename format, and cancelled the job. Then I went into
the directory where it had been writing files to, and tried to delete one of
the created MP3's. I got the following error message:
richard@seamus: ~/music/Howard Shore
$ rm -rf THELO~1H/
rm: cannot remove `THELO~1H//Concerning Hobbits.mp3': Text file busy
running ls gives:
richard@seamus: ~/music/Howard Shore/THELO~1H
$ ls -laF
total 8
drwxrwxrwx 1 richard 504 4096 Jan 30 11:52 ./
drwxrwxrwx 1 richard 504 4096 Jan 30 11:47 ../
-rwxrwxrwx 1 richard 504 0 Jan 30 11:48 Concerning Hobbits.mp3*
I've shut down KAudioCreator and used ps to see if there is still a
KAudioCreator process running, but I can't find one.
How could the file be busy? I'm not looking at it in any other program. I've
tried to delete it in several ways, even su'ing to root to do so.
Any thoughts? What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

What version of software to download?
by Leandro Melo
Hi, i'm a beginner use. I've been trying to set up my development
enviroment in fedora. Don't know if i'll be able to do it, but as i go
one step further i come up with thousands of doubts.
Here's a basic one.
I'd like to download Eclipse (java ide) and there are a few builds for
linux. In my case, i know i'd get the x86's versions, but there're two
of them.
- Linux (x86/Motif)
- Linux (x86/GTK 2)
There are an info page that says the red had system would use the gtk
version, so i think that that's what i should use in fedora.
However, i have a doubt: i understand that motif and gtk are user
interfaces software, but i don't understand why would they have two
diferent builds in this case. Can anyone explain to me?
Also, i use default's gnome in fedora core, may it cause any problem?
Thanks.

Interesting problem.
by Kyle Lagonegro (Student-Lagone37)
Okay so I've downloaded the 4 files I need for FC3, but oddly enough I have them saved on my computer, and can not move them to a CD... Windows (Of course) is showing me an error screen. Anyone had this problem when they were trying to switch or have any clue what I may have done wrong?
I downloaded the second set of four files on the first link from the Download section of the Fendora website. They are ISO files, and the error message reads
"Windows encountered a problem when tring to copy this file. What do you want Windows to do?"
"FC3-x86_64-disc1.iso"
"Tyoe: ISO File"
"Date Modified: 1/28/2005 10:01 AM"
"Size: 637 MB"
Then my choices are "Retry" and "Cancel"
Click Retry just pops the same message up, over and over again. Thanks for the help... I'm looking like quite the noob already on this site... Hehe

core 3 hangs
by solarflow 99
I am having a problem booting core 3 on this 1 computer. It boots fine up
to the point where it says:
Switching to a new root
and, it just sits there. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause it to
hang there? low ram? I disabled selinux, and everthing else, upgraded the
kernel, but it still hangs.
Thanks...
