how to auto-change wireless settings

All; I routinely connect to several wireless networks. Here's the steps I take today: 1) I run "iwlist eth1 scanning" This gives me the settings for the wireless channels around me (I really only need the channel) 2) I go to Kmenu-->System Settings-->Network I input the root password when prompted then I select the wireless device (eth1) and I change the wireless channel to the channel I want. Then I save the changes and "activate" the wireless interface This works fine however I'm thinking there has to be a better way. I have the wireless settings set to "Auto" for the SSID but I always have to change the channel. Is there a way to either tell the wireless to just search for a local wireless AND use the settings it finds or - is there a command line method I can use to change the channel. I've run iwconfig like this "iwconfig eth1 channel 6" but it doesn't work. Any Ideas?

Most projectors wake up in either 640x480 or 800x600 resolution, and FC will accept that as the projector's resolution, and will give you an awful "viewport" behavior. If you wait for the system to boot (and have X running), then the projector will get whacked into the system's resolution and do what you want. On my Dell laptops, Fn-F8 (look for the blue keycap legends) cycles through the projector modes. Look for three: 1) no projector output, 2) Projector but no LCD screen ouput, 3) Both LCD and projector display. Test this first. only problem i am having is when i choose different repos and it wants to either lock down or exit. any corrections or suggestions to this? other than that its a top notch program.. Jimmy

SELinux and awstats

After struggling for a while today with an install of awstats on an newly set up FC3 system, I finally looked into /var/log/messages. It was full of lines like those below. I've disabled SELinux to get awstats working. How do I get it to acccept it? FWIW, when run directly from a command line, the perl scripts work just fine. FC3 and ATI Digital video

I am having problem when I use digital (DVI) versus analog video. The hardware: ASUS SK8V motherboard with an Opteron 140 and 2GB ram. The video is an ATI 9100 with both digital and analog video output (radeon driver). The monitor is a Dell 2000FP (LCD) which can handle both analog and digital (DVI) input selectable on the monitor. The is also a Belkin Omnicube 4 port KVM. When I first started using the ASUS/Opteron system in my setup, I found that I could not use the analog video through the KVM ... the ASUS BIOS "overdrove" the monitor and it cut out. However, FC1 did work OK for both install and running using this analog configuration. My solution to the problem was to not use the analog/KVM setup but instead to connect the monitor to the ATI 9100 using the digital (DVI) interface and then use the selection on the monitor to switch to DVI input when I selected that ASUS/Opteron. This worked fine with FC1 and FC2 (both i386 and x86_64). I skipped this round of testing so my first exposure to FC3 was the final release. I first installed it on another system and that went fine. I then tried installing on the ASUS/Opteron ... oops, black screen and then the monitor went into powersave mode (turned off). After several tries, I gave up and did a text everything install. Install and bootup ... oops, X fails to start again. OK, reboot and come up in non-X (3). I ran system-config-display from another system via ssh and everything looked like it configured properly but X did not display. After some fooling around, I switch to using the analog/KVM setup instead of the digital (DVI) setup. That worked fine. With this setup I also then installed the x86_64 FC3 and it worked fine too. Question: Is anyone using digital (DVI) video, an ATI video card and the radeon driver? Does it work? IS anyone having problems? -- Gene

I heard rssh is incompatible with WinSCP ? is that true? How to custom rescue disk

I've been trying to add a new vmlinuz and initrd.img to isolinux on the FC3 rescue disk. The new cd boots and loads vmlinuz and initrd.img but panics when it starts to mount the file systems. I've found several references on the net about how to customize the packages on a boot disk but not how to replace the boot kernel. Please direct me if this is not the correct list for this. Yum Extender

I just installed the Yum Extender and it is great!! Don't have to go back and forth between user and root, the updates work AND it is soooooo much easier to add packages using this tool. Great suggestion!! HOW TO DELETE FC3

Hi, I have installed FC3 in 2 PC. I need to delete FC3 from one of them and install XP, because intend to use that for other purpose. Can anyone help me how would I do that. When I insert XP CD and boot, it only giving me a blank screen ! Thanks

hi.. can someone point me to basic instructions covering haw to build/install apache1.3.33/mod_perl1/php5 from source on a FC3 system. i need to be able to do everything from the source, as i can't find rpms for my needs.. i also need to know how to add whatever i need to allow me to start the apache service/app at startup, and to be able to add the apache service to the gnome services function. thanks -bruce bedouglas(a)earthlink.net
