LCD monitor will not work

After I replaced with a Sony LCD monitor, a message displayed " Out of scan range, Input 1; HD15 68.6khz/85hz", That's the only display I can get and the system just got stuck right there, how do I fix this problem in FC3?

In hind sight I see that the messages weren't errors but merely pam notices that root had started a process and then that process had ended. As pointed out in the link you provided this is new behaviour from the cron package used in FC2. I was able to track these processes back to tasks being kicked off every 5mins in cron. Matthew Miller suggested removing the pam session line for cron but that didn't work for me. I ended up removing auth notifications in syslog.conf. I'm not really happy with this solution but will use it until I can figure out something better.

meta keys?

In redhat releases and in other operating systems, a default xterm window will provide me with a shell wherein <alt>-<delete> will backward delete a word, <alt>-b, will move the cursor backward a word, <alt>-f will move forward a word, etc. That is, emacs editing mode works and acts on the meta keys. This doesn't work on fedora core 3, at least not out of the box. Can anyone explain to me what I need to do to get my meta key editing back, please? Or point me to relevant documentation that might help me figure out what's going on? I'm going fugbuck trying to type whenever I sit down in front of a fedora box. --rich

Up2date has wrong URL's ???

Hi, I just completed an upgrade from FC2 to FC3. There appears to be something wrong with Up2date, as it bombs out with an error to the effect that the file(s) don't exist. After a little munging on the URL that was flagged, I found that the files do in fact exist. In other words, they're just being specified incorrectly for some reason. Example: The error message indicated the following file couldn't be found: http://mirror.stanford.edu/fedora/linux/core/updates/3/i386//SRPMS/ImageMag… In fact, the file is available at this URL: http://mirror.stanford.edu/fedora/linux/core/updates/3/SRPMS/ImageMagick-6.… How do I repair this? My FC3 has no audio

recently i upgraded my kernel from 2.6.9 to 2.6.11.14.later i found that the sound card is not making any audio output. the system can detect and recognise my sound card but the card is just not working. Can some one tell me why? thx in advance.

I had previously used the boot priority option to configure my machine to try the cdrom first, then the hard disk. However, I had not noticed there was another option labeled "Hard Disk Drives". I went into that and saw that for some reason the drives were ordered IDE Master SATA Drive #1 SATA Drive #2 IDE Slave This was why when grub ran natively it decided the 2nd IDE drive was (hd3). I changed the order to IDE Master IDE Slave SATA Drive #1 SATA Drive #2 After I rebooted, all was well. Thanks for your replies. --Cliff

[FC2] GNOME vfs/autofs annoyance

Hi all, I'm having a small issue with GNOME vfs and autofs mounted resources. It appears that whenever I open a nautilus window or file save dialog or similar for my home directory, all autofs resources in there are attempted to be mounted. This is ok for resources that can be mounted at the time, but annoying for those that can't, like my USB flash memory stick which isn't normally in the USB port. I access the USB stick via a symlink in my home directory: $ ls -l stick lrwxrwxrwx 1 kluge kluge 14 Nov 3 2004 stick -> /mnt/usb/flash What GNOME seems to be doing, instead of the above, is following the link, like ls with the -L switch: $ ls -lL stick ls: stick: No such file or directory This seems totally unnecessary for a GUI listing of the directory only, and should be deferred until I actually want to change into the linked directory. Every time the home directory is read via GNOME, messages like these are being logged to /var/log/messages: May 30 12:16:22 myhost automount[18571]: mount(ext2): /dev/sda1: filesystem needs repair, won't mount May 30 12:16:22 myhost automount[18571]: failed to mount /mnt/usb/flash needlessly filling up the file. Although this is a mere annoyance and doesn't break anything, I'd like know whether the GNOME vfs (or whatever presents directory listings in dialog boxes) can be configured to behave like "ls -l", rather than "ls -lL" (i.e. using lstat() and readlink(), rather than stat() and open()). I didn't find anything for that in gconf-editor. Cheers Steffen.

Hi, I have wireless device on HP nx5000. When I tried to use system-config-network to configure and activate it, I got following warning: Warning : Device eth1 has been compiled with version 17 of Wireless Extension, while we are using version 16. Some things may be broken... How to get this fixed? my system is 2.6.10-1.770_FC3, Best Yuandan

Where should I be looking? > > -- > Regards, > Glenn The rpm installs the source package in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES. however, it seems that the redhat source has a lot of patches in addition to the kernel source itself. The actual kernel is in the file linux-2.6.11.tar.bz2 . From the contents of the directory, you would need to extract the kernel to "/usr/src/linux/" and apply the "linux-2.6.11-*" patches before you run the configuration (I use make xconfig). I assume that since redhat included the patches into the src package, you would need to apply them to the src. James
