can an access point connect through an access point?
by Claude Jones
Is it possible to have two access points on a network? I'm trying to use a
D-Link G700AP as a substitute for a WIFI card. Maybe it can't be done and I'm
wasting my time.
Topology is: Wireless broadband comes into my house through radio; radio has a
LAN port which connects to my WAN nic; my LAN nic is connected to a D-Link
G700AP - various PC's throughout my house connect via WIFI to this AP, and
all works well.
For reasons not worth going into in great detail, I'm trying to replace one
connection from a remote PC, which is using a Microsoft wireless USB device
that is useless in a Linux environment; I have this second D-Link G700AP, and
I was hoping it could be used in place of the Microsoft device.
I've set the SSID on the secondary AP to the same value as the one on my
primary access point.
I've assigned it a unique address in the same subnet as the first AP.
I've set my primary AP address as the gateway for the secondary one.
>From my machine connected to the secondary AP by cat5 cable, I can ping that
AP, so the connection there is fine. But, I can't ping the primary AP.
Channels are the same, encryption is turned off on both. Am I engaged in a
fallacy of composition, or can this be done?

cups-pdf && SELinux problem running
by Samuel Díaz García
Dear Guys, I had working in run cups-pdf and it works with SELinux disables or
relaxed, but ... cups-pdf don't works with SELinux "enforced".
Anyone who know better than me the "SELinux" architecture could help me with
this problem?
I attach the audit.log latter in the conversation with cups-pdf developers.
Could anyone help saying what I need to configure in SELinux (and how) to allow
cupspdf works with SELinux?
Regards

I'll try to find more info about SELinux, but appears that cups-pdf fails in 2
points:
1) SELinux don't allow cups-pdf browse directories.
2) SELinux don't allow cups-pdf get attributes info from files.
I'll google a bit to find more info about solve this problem and say you
(perhaps a miniFAQ about cups-pdf and SELinux will be usefull for some users).
I don't think the problem were (with 2.0.4 at least) with cups-pdf, but think
that a little reference in web page about configuring with SELinux would be a
good idea.
As I said, I'll try find more information in the www.
Regards and many thanks for your support (Volker and Remi).

ML-37 clock speed
by Neal Becker
I have a Turion ML-37. /proc/cpuinfo says:
rocessor : 0
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 15
model : 36
model name : AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37

Why is cpu MHz 800? This link says it should be 2000MHz:

Old 486 computer & external CD reader advice needed
by Thomas Taylor
Hi All:
I've got an old 486 computer (Dolch PAC). It's what was called a
semi-portable computer - requires AC power. It's housed in a ruggedized case
and the only media it can use is a built-in floppy drive. It has two serial
ports (mouse is on one) and a parallel port. It also has a network port,
supposedly 10 MHz, but I haven't been able to get it working. The bus
structure is ISA with room for two cards.
It currently has Windbloze 95 on it. I would like to replace that with FC4
but don't have a way to do it currently. I was thinking of getting one of
the CD-ROM external devices that uses the parallel port for communication
(called a backpack originally). There are a couple of these on ebay but I'm
not sure if it would work as the BIOS doesn't allow booting from anything
except the floppy or hard drive.
Anyone got a suggestion?
Thanks,
Tom

iptables rules to connect through a linux firewall.
by Dan Track
Hi,
I'm trying to connect a windows XP client to a remote pptp server. I'm using
windows XP at home on my home network which connects to the internet via a
fedora linux firewall using iptables with nat.
What iptables rules do I need to insert to allow this to happen. I guess I
just need to forward packets.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Spamassassin emails have wrong perms
by Justin Willmert
I am hoping somebody can help me solve a problem I am having with
procmail and spamassassin (specifically spamd). When spamassassin has
marked a message as spam, it gets sorted to a Junk folder, but the
problem is that it is owned by root:mail when it should be owned by the
user. When this happens, dovecot will not serve the email to the user. I
sort other emails into folders with simple matching rules and those work
fine. Spamassassin is the only rule that is piped out to a program.
Here is the relevant portion my procmailrc file:
DROPPRIV=yes # Make this run as a normal user. If
you need
# root privileges for something, do
it before
# this line.
# Send mail through spamassassin
:0fw
| spamc -u $LOGNAME
# Now that we've tagged the spam, put in the appropriate folder
:0
* ^X-Spam-Status: Yes

I've tried taking the -u $LOGNAME portion out too and that doesn't work.

As you can see, I've also got a problem with not being able to access
the bayes_journal. I've put it in it's own directory and made them owned
by nobody:staff and still nothing. Anyway, here is my local.cf file:

I'd be happy to send along any other information you need. Thanks for

Below is what showed up in audit/audit.log when I sent a message through
spamassassin. I'm _*really*_ rusty on SELinux...it's the one thing I
have to deal with quite often that I haven't been able to learn how to
use...it's so foreign to me. I've never looked in audit.log before: the
avc messages used to show up in messages, but now as far back as my logs
go, I don't have a single avc message. This all looks like jibberish to
me, so I need your guy's help.
Thanks,
Justin

OT: Document Management
by Paul Lemmons
I am about Googled-out looking for a good GPL document management
solution that runs under Linux. I have come to the conclusion that I am
either searching for the wrong things or such a beast does not exist. I
am hoping that you all can give guidance.
Here is what I am trying to do: I would like a simple, web based means
to store, retrieve, update and search documents. The back end needs to
run under Linux. The immediate goal is to be able to organize system
documentation. I want to be able to upload office type documents and
possibly images. It would be really cool if it did versioning but that
is a bell. I am not looking for an authoring system such as a wiki.
The best I have found so far is a XOOPS plug-in. It is kind of a gorilla
and banana problem, though. All I really want is the banana but the
gorilla comes with it. I also looked at eDMS but it has a lot of
dependencies and I was not able to get it to work reliably. Though not a
show-stopper, the interface for both products are a bit
counter-intuitive as well.
Has anybody had any positive experiences solving this problem?
