So, what happened to the sort command? >sort -f 4 -d ' ' foo sort: open failed: 4: No such file or directory >sort +4 foo sort: open failed: +4: No such file or directory That's going to break a lot of scripts. -- Dave ----- Nobody believed that I could build a space station here. camstream

I thought camstream was available in fedora core or extras i don't remember but i found nothing. I tried to rebuild the one available for FC3 from dries repo but the build process stoped with error. Is there somewhere camstream available for fc6 or an equivalent soft ? Thanks Eric

FC-6 post-install update problem

I installed FC-6 yesterday, up from FC-4 the process left me with this, which blocks yum update $ grep strict rpms-list selinux-policy-strict-1.27.1-2.27 selinux-policy-strict-2.3.18-10 --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: bind-chroot conflicts with selinux-policy-strict < 2.2.0 Error: caching-nameserver conflicts with selinux-policy-strict < 2.2.0 > [jimc@harpo ~]$ sudo rpm -e selinux-policy-strict-1.27.1-2.27 libsemanage.semanage_direct_remove: Module bootloader was not found. semodule: Failed on bootloader! error: %trigger(selinux-policy-strict-2.4.1-4.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 1 [jimc@harpo ~]$ also tried yum> clean all, which only slowed down next attempt :-( and s/\#baseurls/baseurls/' on /etc/yum.repo.d/fedora* neither helped. any ideas ?

FC6 Nightly Yum Updates

It looks to me that something else has changed with yum and I have not yet located documentation for it. Perhaps someone here can give me a clue. In FC5 and earlier, nightly yum updates were enabled via /sbin/service as so: [dmaxwell@sturgeon ~]$ /sbin/service yum list Usage: /etc/init.d/yum {start|stop|status|restart|reload|force-reload|condrestart} [dmaxwell@sturgeon ~]$ /sbin/service yum status Nightly yum update is enabled. But in FC6, /sbin/service does not seem to recognize yum: [dmaxwell@tarpon ~]$ /sbin/service /sbin/service yum status /sbin/service: unrecognized service [dmaxwell@tarpon ~]$ /sbin/service /sbin/service yum add /sbin/service: unrecognized service The /etc/cron.daily directory in FC6 does not have yum.cron as was in FC5. Spellchecking in Evolution has done gone and left me

If you have been following the thread about the "rm bug" you'll note that I was the original poster. In the post I pointed out that I stupidly went and deleted some files from /usr/lib. Many of them were GNOME/GTK+ related in that it took a bit of forcing to get Evolution back running. I still have things that aren't working right, if at all, like Nautilus and printing but those can wait. My current dilemma is that there are now no languages available under Composer Preferences -> Spell Checking. My spelling (in)abilities are legend in some parts of the world. Needless to say I need spell checking back. What rpm package has the languages associated with Evolutions spell checking functionality? At the moment I am forced to using other apps (today I'm using KEdit) to compose my email and spell check it then cut-n-paste into the body of the email. Significant boot error message ?

When I boot FC6 I get a few error messages: Red Hat nash version 5.1.19 starting usb 1-2 device not accepting address 2, error -71 ata2; port failed to respond (30 secs) ata2: SRST failed (status 0xFF) ata2: SRST failed (err_mask=0x100) ata2: SRST failed (status 0xFF) ata2: SRST failed (err_mask=0x100) ata2: SRST failed (status 0xFF) ata2: SRST failed (err_mask=0x100) ata2: reset failed, giving up Reading all physical volumes. _etc. things proceed normally after this. _ Other than that everything seems to be working. The only usb device connected to the computer is a cheap looking Dell mouse that came with it. FC6 Linux is installed on a second sata drive since the computer came with Windows XP which I elected to keep intact. Other than the time it spends doing whatever this indicates, slowing the boot process, I don't see a problem. But I would like to "fix" it if anyone has any idea what it means. Thanks. Bob Goodwin
