Should'nt Yum report no space left on device ?
by Kevin Verma
I have just been installing few of the RPMs using yum to my already
installed FC5 system, while that /usr went hundred 100% of which I was
unware about.
I've been running yumex and then yum again to ensure what is going
wrong at that and why I don't have the packages installed finally.
Till the time I made out that disk is full, yum would download the
packages, will show the install progress completing as normal, but in
the end none of the subjected packages have any trace on the system or
even rpmdb.
Some one will like to test the same and file a report on bugzilla or
else I'll try to do it at my ease (I am traveling) {yum-2.6.0-1}
Cheers,
Kevin

It looks like I need to add to and rewrite to my /boot/grub.conf file.
I am new to Linux and
just want to be sure. My boot sequence starts with the floppy but I
don't know how grub decides which file to read.
I tried the rescue cd to see what the fc5 /boot/grub.conf file says
but I am new to the command line and could't bring it up.
can anyone help me?
thank you,

firefox problem
by David Pettersson
Hi,
I saved my home directory under FC3 to a DVD. Then I installed FC5 and
moved my .mozilla file on the DVD to my new home directory. When I try
to start firefox I get an error msg telling me that firefox "is already
running, but is not responding". There is no file in .mozilla to that
match *lock*. If I remove .mozilla firefox starts but then I lose my
valueable bookmarks and passwords.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I came to think of the problem with the DVD renaming files (so .mozilla
is actually _mozilla on the DVD and I had to rename it when copying it
back). Do anyone have a list of filenames from .mozilla/firefox in FC3
to send me, so I can see how to rename them back if this should be the
problem?
Thanks

Re: Help needed - RAID5 recovery from Power-fail - without HTML
by Nigel J. Terry
Guys
Thanks for the prompt responses. Sorry I have only just got back to
this. The powerfail was a result of moving house and my wife thinks that
unpacking and putting up shelves is more important than my server...
I have investigated some more. This array of 2 * 250GB disks was set up
as RAID5 with the aim of adding another drive later. I have bought that
drive today, but not yet installed it. In the 2 disk state it appears to
give 250GB of storage. I can provide the following extra information:
# cat /proc/mdstat

# mdadm --query /dev/md0

RAID-5 requires at least three disks. The only way that a RAID-5 array
can run with two disks is in "degraded" mode -- as if the third disk had
failed. How did you create this thing?

That's relatively self-explanatory. You're probably going to have to
dig up a third disk somewhere and add it to the array before it will
resync.

If the RAID device can't be started, then nothing built on it "exists".

Should be possible with a third disk.

Glory
by Bill Case
Thanks to everyone at Fedora and all those who work up the line with
Gnome, Evolution, GNU, etc., etc, and etc.
I have had Fedora Core 5 installed for four days now, and it is neater,
cleaner and faster than ever.
For those that are working for the glory, consider yourselves glorified.

Atheros Based Cards and Network Manager
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
As I continue to read this LUG, I am finding out that you can create
configuration files to work with Atheros-based wireless cards in FC5. I
cannot find my wireless card (a Linksys wpc 55ag) in Nework Manager.
How do you create these configuration files to get these wireless cards
to work and where are they placed? I currently am using FC5. One other
point - and perhaps this is just my opinion: it is totally unacceptable
for an operating system to not even be able to find a wireless card
(which worked perfectly in FC4, I might add) to not be detected, never
mind getting it to work. I understand that FC5 has just been released,
but if you have a major investment in wireless cards, they should be
able to work once you install the proper drivers. In my opinion, this
is a major show stopper which should have been fixed by now, especially
since a new kernel has already been released. Well, enough of my
ranting. Nevertheless, if this problem is not fixed soon, many people
are not going to use FC5 on laptops.

xkb
by G Rajesh
Hello,
I recently updated fc from 4 to 5. I formatted / partition but not /home
to preserve data. After updating, whenever I login, the following
message appears:
Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation
X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
70000000
If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
I have updated kernel, xorg-xserver, etc available till date, but no
avail. Can someone please help. In fact, scim (ta_IN) does work for me
in OO.o - perhaps because of the above problem, am I right?
Thanks in advance.

Fedora Tracker lives again!
by Brad Smith
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello all,
Fedora Tracker (http://www.fedoratracker.org) has been... less than useful since FC4 came out and
Yum switched to using XMl-based metadata. At the time I was just too busy with my work at Red Hat to
add support for it to the backend so most repositories didn't get indexed. Fortunately that's now
changed. For those unfamiliar with Fedora Tracker, it aims to be a search engine indexing all Fedora
yum repositories on the net.
Lately I've finally gotten to spend some time on the project and, with the help of Hrishikesh Ballal
who responded to a request for assistance and contributed time, ideas and code, I am pleased to
announce that a new revision of Tracker is online. The backend has been completely rewritten with
support for the new repository format and is implemented in such a way that, given a .repo file with
$basearch and $releasever urls, it will automatically try all supported arch/ver combinations so
that if support for a new arch or ver is added for a known repository it will automatically be indexed.
The main change to the frontend is that it is no longer quite as i386-centric. The architecture
search field has been moved from the "advanced search" page to the main page so x86_64 and ppc users
will have an easier time searching for appropriate packages.
On a less positive note, apt and old-style yum support has been removed. This is partly due to some
technical issues I am having with my web host, partly due to a relative lack of interest in Apt I've
seen among Fedora users and partly to minimize the amount of code I have to support. If enough
people yell at me about this I'll consider changing it.
There are also still a few sporadic bugs that I will nail down as I find time and tons of features I
look forward to implementing including performance enhancements, moving to a templating engine for
the frontend and giving the whole interface a facelift. On that note, I'm still interested in
getting a logo of some sort for the site, so if anyone with the requisite artistic talent would care
to submit something I'll take it under consideration. If I get enough, maybe I'll put them all up
for a vote.
For now this message is just to let people know that Tracker is back in the game and to encourage
Fedora users to to pound away at it, sending bug reports to me via email. This includes situations
where the interface hangs or takes excessively long to complete a query. If you run into a situation
like this and can tell me:
- - What you were doing
- - Approximately what time you did it
- - Whether or not it was reproducible (did it suddenly work when you hit 'reload')
it would be appreciated. Finally, if anyone knows of a repository not in the database, please let me
know.
Thanks, and I hope people find it useful,
- --Brad
