HP Pavilion dv8235nr
by Brian D. McGrew
Brand new HP notebook!
FC3 won't bring up X at all.
FC4 detects an ATI Radeon and tries to start X but fails miserably,
locking the system.
FC5 detects an nVidia GeForce - unknown vendor id () and successfully
starts X, in what looks like 800x500 mode.
WTF???
Any ideas???
:b!

Core5 fonts.
by Keith Powell
Another Fedora newbie question!
I am liking Fedora Core 5 more and more, and would like it to be my
new sole distro. However, I am finding that the fonts look poor when
compared with the other distros I have tried. They are thick and the
edges are "fuzzy" on my 1024x768 15" TFT monitor.
I have tried both KDE and Gnome. I have tried various fonts. I have
tried the usual experimenting with anti-aliasing and
sub-pixel-hinting. Nothing will improve them!
Any ideas, please?
Many thanks.

Errata DVD as repo?
by Paul Trevethan
Hi,
I have obtained an Errata dvd for Fedora 5 and I want to add it as an
update repository. I have tried creating the .repo file but I
continually seem to be getting the syntax wrong when trying to use a
local file structure as the baseurl.
Can someone give me some guidance in this matter please?
I want to get this working so that I can put Fedora on my sister's
machine - but she has a totally restrictive monthly download allowance
from her ISP account. So. I want to do the install with my
Fedora Install dvd followed by an update with the errata dvd. Hopefully
then I can set up the normal online repos and her ongoing updates
will not be out of reach.
Paul.

How to obtain Fedora Core Kernel Sources?
by alexander.beck-ratzka
Hello list,
I am running Fedora Core 4 with the Kernel 2.6.15-1.1831_FC4 on IBM Thinkpad
T41P.
To enable the usage of an internal modem, I need to compile and install the
slmodem as a kernel modul. The installation fails, because I have no kernel
sources in /usr/src/linux. My question is quite simple (as I hope): How can I
obtain the sources? I would like to use yum to get them, but I don't know the
package name. If I use yum, is it satisfied that I get the right sources for
my kernel? I am using the kernel 2.6.15-1.1831_FC4.
Cheers

MySpace Group for Fedora Users and Contributors
by Patrick W. Barnes
I know that many of our users, particularly in our younger user base, are
members of the MySpace community. There have been a couple of attempts at
forming groups in support of Fedora, but they have not been well-maintained.
As such, I have formed a new group on MySpace in support of Fedora.
http://groups.myspace.com/fedoraproject
Note that this group is not officially endorsed by the Fedora Project, but as
a strong Fedora Project contributor, I am prepared to maintain it and see
that it lives up to the standards that are highly regarded in the Fedora
Community.
MySpace has been the focus of some controversy due to the way that some young
people use it. I believe that one important aspect of such massive social
networking services is providing positive venues to outweigh the potentially
negative materials. I hope that this group can be one small part of that.
If you are a Fedora user or contributor and a MySpace member, please consider
signing up for this new group and showing your support for the Fedora Project
while interacting with one segment of our community at the same time.
You might also be interested in our Frappr group, which shows where Fedora's
users and contributors are scattered throughout the world.
