k3b: cdrecord will be run without root privileges

Dear All When I start k3b, I get a warning message saying: «cdrecord will be run without root privileges It is highly recommended to configure cdrecord to run with root privileges. Only then cdrecord runs with high priority which increases the overall stability of the burning process. Apart from that it allows changing the size of the used burning buffer. A lot of user problems could be solved this way. This is also true when using SuSE's resmgr. Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem.» How can I solve that? I have tried $K3bSetup bash: K3bSetup: command not found $ and $ k3bsetup bash: k3bsetup: command not found $ Thanks in advance, Paul

VDQ : Apple Airport Base Station and FC5.ppc

Back in the summer of '00, when I bought a new G3 i-Book (from Terrasoft, with OSX, to be sure, but mostly YellowDog 2.3), I got it with a wireless card and a thing called an Airport Base Station, which seems to be basically a wireless router. The latter has a phone port, which works with both dialup and DSL, and two ethernet cable ports, one with a circle of doet and one marked <...> (dots in the middle, not along the bottom). At that time, using DSL, I was able to connect my desktop to one of those ethernet ports (I don't recall which), and at the same connect the iBook wirelessly in the next room. It had some sort of security, involving a name and a password, both of which I've long forgotten; and as soon as FC.ppc became available (was thet FC4 or FC3?), I've run Fedora on it exclusively. I did once have (and could, maybe, find) directions on how to recover it under YellowDog 4; but they were both beyond my grasp of linux at the time, and very hairy. I recall among other things that you had to get the router you connected it to to use a certain specific IP number before you could do anything else .... I currently run a D-Link DI-604 router behind a Motorola SB5100 cable modem connecting to Adelphia the Utterly Abominable, but hope to have some other sort of wireless broadband (from a transmission tower on a nearby hill, I believe) some time in the course of the next month; and there is also a D-Link 10/100 FastEthernet Switch inside the router with a couple ports free. So I have the following Very Dumb Question : Is there a way, under FC5.ppc (which is currently installed), to regain the use of this thing? A way that a real sub-technoid could manage? Some tools for wireless test and management

Hi all, I would like to start using my wireless card. This is a BCM43xx for which I see the support on new kernel. I used it with a little AP without authentication in managed mode. I'm using KDE Now I would like to know somethings: What software I need for use it or configure it by GUI (kwireless tools for example). Until now I changed the config file and used iwconfig. iwconfig tell me that I'm using version 19 and the driver is compiled for version 20. How can i obtain the version 20? I tried to use airsnort to see if my card receive some packet, but I'm unable. I have to use other as driver type, but airsnort ask me to place my card into monitor mode. I don't know how to. I see some other software (like aircrack or other) but I didn't found it on fedora repos. What about wpa? (I see some about wpa_supplicant) but I don't know how to use it. I need absolutely Windows driver, or can I configure WPA even if I have only Linux? I'm sorry for a lot of questions, but in mailing didn't find something of usefull. Bye to all Ambrogio

Hi all, I would like to understand well it in general, but I have a little problem. I would like to use ffmpeg to convert amr files into wav or other. I installed via yum from freshrpms all ffmpeg (and all related dependencies) but when I trie to convert my file with the command ffmpeg -i Reg.amr Reg.wav I receive this output FFmpeg version CVS, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64 --mandir=/usr/share/man --incdir=/usr/include/ffmpeg --extra-cflags=-fPIC --enable-mp3lame --enable-libogg --enable-vorbis --enable-theora --enable-faad --enable-faac --enable-libgsm --enable-xvid --enable-x264 --enable-a52 --enable-a52bin --enable-dts --enable-pp --enable-shared --enable-pthreads --enable-gpl --disable-opts --disable-strip I think that I have to download the source package and rebuild with --enable-amr_nb --enable-amr_wb --enable-mp3lame I don't know how to make it via rpm. HTTPD configuration problem

Hi I am trying to configure my home httpd server. I am using the gui tool under system/administration/server settings/HTTP to do this and I think there is something in this tool that changes the httpd.conf file such that when the httpd service is restarted, it refuses with the following error: Stopping httpd: [ OK ] Starting httpd: httpd: Syntax error on line 182 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/mod_access.so into server: /etc/httpd/modules/mod_access.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [FAILED] [root@bilbo conf]# I am running FC5 2.6.16-1.2122_FC5 x86_64 with the following httpd versions: [root@bilbo conf]# rpm -qa | grep httpd httpd-2.2.2-1.2 system-config-httpd-1.3.3-1.1 [root@bilbo conf]# The configuration utility seems to be changing the config file to make it use v2.0 configurations which will obviously fail. Why is this? and how do I change the configuration to prevent this happening? -- Chris Jones

David, Over the past few days, I have replaced all of my network cable to CAT6 cable. It did not perform any better. I have been using the program iperf on my LAN and these are the results. [root]# iperf -s ------------------------------------------------------------ Server listening on TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 4] local 192.168.*.* port 5001 connected with 192.168.*.* port 1914 [ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 508 MBytes 425 Mbits/sec ------------------------------------------------------------ This is much better than what I originally posted. 93.3 Mbit/s It may be a SAMBA thing. I have looked into that and have not been able to make any improvements. SFTP works a little better. With SFTP I transferred 6.3GB in 5min which is 140Mbit/s. Not close to what IPERF says my LAN speed is capable of. I will try another switch this week. -Matt

Testing mod_perl

Hi all, I have just setup a new server and installed Apache on it. I have a requirement for mod_perl to be installed. I did a "yum install mod_perl" which executed with no errors. What I would like to know is: is there a way to test that mod_perl has been installed correctly? Something along the lines of say <? phpinfo(); ?> in php, which displays something so that I can verify that it is installed and working correctly? can't resolv host name with firefox

I'm using FC4, I can ping an IP number but if i use firefox i get the errore can't resolv host name. Could you tell me what is wrong? In another istallation of FC4 every thing went ok but in this one I can't get the web. Could yuo tell me whict log file check? tanks, Antonello.

LDAP addressbook set up, now need to use it

Hi folks. I've configured an LDAP addressbook using the openldap-servers rpm and the tutorial at http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2003/03/27/ldap_ab.html The server's configured and appears to be working, however I can't seem to use it. If I do a ldapsearch I see the two contacts I've added to the server. I have configured the Kaddressbook to use the LDAP directory and it shows both contacts and their details. However, in kmail composer when I click on Select the contacts are not there, even when I choose the LDAP directory as the addressbook to use. When I try to use Outlook 2003 or Outlook Express I have the same problem in that I don't see any contacts. Could anyone point me to any possible reasons for this, or how to fix it?
