FC5 & Dell 2007FPW - Anybody got widescreen?
by Naoki
Howdy all,
Anybody managed to get 1680x1050 as an available resolution in
'gnome-display-properties' ?
I'm running an intel 945G graphics chip and all I get is 1600x1200 with
no widescreen options.
If anybody knows the magic xorg.conf hack I'd be very happy to hear it.
Cheers.

what does FC5 x86-64 upgrade do with i386?
by Jack Howarth
I am still a bit unclear on what I should expect when attempting
to upgrade a FC4 x86-64 installation to FC5 x86-64. Specifically, I
have installed the i386 firefox and associated plugin rpms on the
FC4 x86-64 machine using yum.repos.d entries of fedora.i386.repo,
fedora-updates.i386.repo and fedora-extras.i386.repo (which are all
disabled by default). How exactly does the anaconda react to the
presence of the i386 rpms on a x86-64 machine? Will they be removed
in favor of the x86-64 rpms form FC5?
Also I have asked this several times here before but never gotten
a response. How are people keeping their i386 rpms properly updated
on a x86-64 machine? So far I can see no other option than to manually
reinstall the i386 packages with yum (using --enable-repo) when new
versions are available. However that is a very painful process and
makes it very difficult to keep the i386 rpms on a x86-64 machine
properly updated.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hello,
Can Anyone tell me how I can change the color files systems. The color blue

Also is there a way to change the background color?
Thanks

FC4 to FC5 upgrade login sound reeeaaaallll slow
by Philip Walden
I just upgraded from FC4 to FC5 using the download iso images.
It was painless enough, but now when the log in screen is present, the
log in sound plays reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy slow. After I login the rest of
the sounds come on perfectly. When I check out the
System->Preferences->Sounds. There is a momentary blank warning dialog
and then the Sound dialog comes up. All the sounds, including the log in
sound play at the correct speed.
Any thoughts.
Its a HP Omnibook 6000, ESS Maestro-3i, the driver is snd-maestro3.

Issues w/ Xorg 7.0, Dell L610, and i810 drivers
by Philip Prindeville
I'm using a Dell L610 to run FC5 (updated), and it has an i915GM controller,
which uses the i810 drivers...
I can't seem to configure it correctly (I've attached the config I'm
using). It
seems to have two issues.
(1) it probes for the monitor DDC sync values, which disagree with what I've
explicitly configured, but looking at the Xorg.0.log file, it gives
no indication
of what the EDID actually said the values were (grrr... you can never
have too
much logging).
(2) it then complains that "1400x1050" isn't a known modeline (no mode of
this name), even though I've explicitly configured a modeline with that
exact setting.
and the second head (in this case, connected to a Dell 1704FPV via DVI
hanging off a port-replicator) never seems to light up.
I've attached both the config and the log file. If anyone has had luck with
this, please let me know.
Thanks,
-Philip

Lost anti-aliasing
by Matthias Bauw
hi there,
I am using Fedora 5 for quite a while now, I have always used gnome but
recently I started playing around with
KDE and XFCE. But when I logged in in Gnome again I lost anti-aliasing on
the desktop of the user with wich I have logged in in both
other systems. On all the other users nothing is wrong.
I have added some screenshots for you to see, maybe someone knows a solution
for this?
Thanks a lot
Matt.

skype
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I encounter some audio problem with skype.
First, I could receive the sound from my correspondant but I could not
reply: he did not hear me. This was solved using
artsdsp -m /usr/bin/skype
Now the problems are:
1- if another audio device is working (xmms for instance), the ring tone
of an incoming call is not mixed with the music displayed.
2- if I receive a call and answer, I can no more use xmms without loging
off skype, skype doe not liberate the dsp device.
Is there a solution to these problems?
I am running FC4 with last kernel. I do not have KDE, only a few
packages (arts, k3b,...)
Thank you.

Checking internet connection without a winbox
by Dotan Cohen
I find that my internet connection is very slow. I speed test my
conection and it comes out at ~170 kilo bytes per second, which sits
well with a 1.5 MBS line. When I ping google, I have about 80% packet
loss, and the packets take 200-300 ms.
My ISP says that the infrastuture company is to blame. The
infrastructure says that there is no problem with them, and that my
router or computer is to blame. They have a windows tool to check it,
but I've no winbox here right now. Until I run their tool and
eliminated my machine as the source of the problem, they won't help me
pinpoint the problem.
What can I do to pinpoint the problem, or at least discount my machine
and my router as problematic? Thanks.

kudzu and modems.
by akonstam@trinity.edu
I can't understand the behavior of kudzu in respect to my serial
modem. After initial installation it detects the modem but after that
it is ignored. What I mean is I can remove the modem and kudzu ignores
the change, or I can remove the modem from the kudzu database and
kudzu ignores the change. I can run: kudzu --class MODEM and kudzu
will remove all my hardware from its database except the MOUSE but it
still ignores the modem.
How can I get kudzu to notice that I have changed, removed or added
the modem?
