FC5 ethernet problem

FC5 freezes my laptop

I installed Fedora Core 5 on my eMachines laptop. After about 5 minutes of usage, it freezes. My only recourse is to hold the power button down until the laptop powers off. It has done this numerous times. I have been running FC4 with very little problem for about 5 months. I suspect it is related to the touchpad, but I don't know. Could someone suggest what the problem might be or how I might diagnose it? Thanks! Andrew Robinson

yum files?

What directory do the yum downloads get saved in prior to being installed...? I want to create as much free disk space as I can and a yum update was cancelled mid stream and I want to purge that directory of all of it contents... Thanks.

hello matt i would first see if you can get a wlan card from the same manufacturer what's your access point from . next figure out if there are opensource driver - i heart that LINKSYS ... - and what's the REAL(!) chipset on the card. manufacturer change them, without changing the product name ! some links: not an idiot's guide, but for further reading: http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Wireless.html old, but flawless running prism based cards: http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz no blame to the ndiswrapper developer, but i would keep the hands off that "construction" to get the card running see jun mailing list -> "closed driver and illegal software..." and and .... okay ? ronald sorry 4 broken english, but i think you can pick the sense/info...

Where did fedora.redhat.com go ?

Anyone know what happened to fedora.redhat.com ? I tried to do a yum update this afternoon and there seems to be no DNS entry for the host. As that's where the mirror list id fetched from updates are failing. When I run yum I receive the following error. Has there been a change in the URL addresses? I downloaded some php code for an a little ap and put it in /var/www/html/phpMyPhotos. When I tried to access http://localhost/phpMyPhotos I get Forbidden You don't have permission to access /phpMyPhotos on this server. I'm running as root so I did chown root:root phpMyPhotos. Recommended wireless cards

I'm looking to put FC5 on my sons Dell Optiplex in lieu of Windows 2000 Professional (ack!). All he needs is access to email and the internet and my printer. But all this needs to be done wirelessly. What is the general consensus of recommended wireless PCI cards for running under FC5? I use MAC filtering and 128bit WEP on the home network. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Also, if there's a "idiots guide to FC5" or something along those lines he and I would be much appreciative.
