Problem accessing some https sites
by Jacques B.
I'm unable to access some https sites for some reason. I can access
https://mail.google.com for example, but not my banking site, or
another encrypted site. I turned off iptables but still no luck. I
also went in the GUI and turned off the firewall from there (isn't
that also iptables?). I have a Windows box on a hub with the FC6 box
(only two on that hub) which can access those other sites no problem.
So the problem is definitely local to my FC6 machine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jacques B

Process for file protocol died unexpectedly// Session errors...// KDE restore session
by Kim Lux
I'm getting a "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly" when
I log into my Linux box.
When I log in, my desktop has no icons. As soon as I do anything with a
desktop file, it refeshes and the icons appear. (For example, right
click->new->folder.)
Also, my .xsession-errors file has literally hundreds of "+QFile::open:
No file name specified" errors in it. Furthermore, whenever I do
anything on the desktop, like move an icon, about 20 more such error
messages occur.
I think the problem originated when I accidentally filled my hard drive.
Since then I have freed up a bunch of space. I've also run fsck and its
fine error wise.
I suspect that KDE is trying to open a file that was used in a previous
session, maybe when my computer shut down from a full hard drive. How
does one wipe all the previous session info so that KDE doesnt do a
"restore session" operation ?
Thanks.

Installing only critical updates via yum?
by Nick Webb
Hey all,
I'm a pretty new Fedora fan, been using FC6 for 3 months.
Is there a way to only install critical (needed for security) updates?
Other than reading each and every patch description, of course. Right now I
have some 25+ updates to install, but I know just one or two must be
security fixes. I don't want to upgrade all the packages as I've had
problems in the past, but I want to keep current security wise. At some
point in the future when it's not as critical to my work, I will upgrade all
the packages.
Thanks,
Nick

HP NetRAID controller on FC6
by Andrea Mennini
Hi,
I have a HP E60 server with NetRAID 1s card, that's supported under FC4,
i.e. it is recognized and FC4 installs over it. This card is not
recognized neither on FC5, nor on FC6.
Is there any way to extract drivers from FC4 in order to use them under
FC6? How can I make it run under FC6?
Thanks a lot

problems with mplayer
by Howard Howell
Hi, everyone,
For some reason my mplayer stuff has reverted to not working.
For example, go to:
http://tracking.military.com/cgi-bin/outlog.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fimages%
2Emilitary%2Ecom%2FAudio%2FFTED50%2Emp3%3FESRC%3Dnavy%
2Enl&code=070129WNVH06&eml=ddb8efb55e7cf67504811758fd348d3f
And what I get is the the progress bar, a tab opens up, the run button
appears depressed and then the message "getting playlist" appears,
followed quickly by what seems to be the site name (can't read it all),
and then the word stopped and nothing ever appears. The stop button is
shown as depressed when the stop occurs.
I don't get any error messages on screen. Which logs should I look at?
and have any of you experienced this or cured it?
Regards,
Les H

I think /bin/mount has changed somewhere between fc4 and fc6 but
system-config-netboot hasn't been updated to reflect this.
Someone has already created a bugzilla entry:

The Case of the Missing Characters, revisited
by kwhiskerz kwhiskerz
I have noticed that when I am typing, the letters v,b,f,g,r,t,4,5 do
not always type, making it very difficult to write emails and enter
commands. The curious thing, as I just ascertained a moment ago, is
that the missing characters all line up diagonally on the keyboard.I
am using the pc105 character german keyboard setting with all dead
keys, and have the system set to use utf-8,
which is the default.I have also enabled the xkbd compose key option
on the useless key to the left of the right ctrl key. This has only occurred 2 or 3 times in the last 2 weeks.Could
there be some problem with keysim mappings or something?I thought
that, since the keys all line up, that there could be a problem with
the keyboard, but someone else reported the problem on fedoraforum about 2
weeks ago.kwhiskerz{
