FC6 installation problem

Dear All, I have installed FC6 ( from five CDs burnt ) in our PE6600 dell computer, which contains 4 CPUs and 16GB RAM. FC4 was installed in this box previously with no any problem. However after FC6 was installed and rebooted, I got the message of "asking for cache data failed, assuming drive cache: write through, reading all physical data, this may take a while..." This process really took very long (after overnight and still continuing)with back screen. Could any one help me with this problem? Many thanks in advance. Liqin

Router/firewall help

I want to setup a stand-alone router/firewall using the latest Fedora distribution. I re-built the kernel and modules, however I can't seem to find any current references on how to setup the rest of the system to function solely as a router/firewall. This is probably a different resource, however I will ask: I want to put the system on a flash and boot from it. Since flash is painfully slow I want to run the system from ramdisk. Any direction on that front would be also appreciated. If this is of interest to others I will publish what I did to make this work. The computer is a lightweight board; low power with no fans, 512mb DRAM, two Ethernet chips, USB and a bootable 1GB flash. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. --

i'm trying to build a kernel from the absolute latest "git" pull of the kernel source tree that will have functioning networking on my laptop. the setup: dell inspiron 9200 linksys etherfast 10/100 cardbus pc card FC6 with all the updates networking works great under the latest FC-updated kernel (2.6.19-1.2911.fc6), and i was sure that this card uses the "tulip" driver. but with the latest kernel source, i did a "make defconfig", then added the tulip driver as a module but ... nothing. given that setup above, is there something obvious i'm missing? rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. MMS streams

Has anybody gotten MMS streams to play on FC6? I need to view video lectures from my university, but I cannot play the streams. DMA on optical drive

I've been trying to trobleshoot a problem with optical disk drives on 3 computers (all FC6, all different brands of drives) - they won't burn CDs. Actually, I had this with FC5 and SUSE 10.0 also. With a bit of research (on bugzilla), I have the notion that it might be due to DMA. How do I turn off DMA to a particular drive? Is there a possibility that the drives can't do DMA? Or that they need to be configured?

If this has already been discussed sorry for my lack of knowledge. I probably had to write this a year ago, but I hoped that it would happen in Fedora Core 6. When it didn't I was surprised and shocked! SuSE, Fedora and Mandriva use RPM packages, but Suse (mandriva adopted it also) uses delta rpm packages for updated. Which is a GREAT solution for updates because they are a fraction of the whole download. Even on a high bandwidth ADSL line it takes a lot of time (and banddwidth) to download Fedora updates. Delta RPMs are an extreme upgrade to standard updated so please consider adopting it. So I applaud you if this is already in the works for Fedora 7, and you get a really, really strange look from me if it is not. Thank you for all your effort for making Fedora a great distro it is! Fedora Hardware Compatibility...

Hi.. I was hoping that someone could point me towards the right direction... I'm planning on building roughly 20 computers to run FC6 (or Fedora 7 when it comes out) I understand there are certain hardware compatibility issues, ie. graphic cards, sound cards, etc. Is there some kind of a list with 'Fedora-safe' hardware I could use when shopping for parts? I'm currently running FC6 on an iMactel and have had some trouble with various things like 3d acceleration, wireless, isight, etc. but I understand it wouldn't be quite this difficult if I wasn't using the iMac. I just want to be extra careful before spending what little money I have. ^_^ And I would really love to have 3d acceleration working on all machines! Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
