Any users of S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]?
by Chris Mohler
After adding RAM to a box found in thr\e trash, I was pleasantly
surprised to discover it's got a Athon XP 2GHz processor on board.
ECS mobo, branded by the "eMachines" folk - quite speedy.
Now I'm mucking around with the video and wwondered if anyone's gotten
DRI to work with this thing. According to lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8
KM266/KL266] (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems Unknown device 0a85
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 20
Memory at ed000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at ec000000 [disabled] [size=64K]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [80] AGP version 2.0
glxinfo looks promising, except for one line:
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
GL apps (glxinfo, ppracer) fail to render anything, and CPU jumps to 100%.
After some research, I'm compiling the git mesa - but any pointers welcome.
Thanks,
Chris

Firfox long startup solution
by Matthew Saltzman
I recall a recent thread complaining that after the recent update, Fx was
slow to load the first time. I can't find it just now, though, so I can't
connect this back to that thread. But...
After the change in version, Firefox libs are no longer preloaded by
readahead, because the directory listing in /etc/readahead.d/default.later
is the wrong version. This is an interaction between the readahead RPM
and the Fx RPM. The solution is to change references to
/usr/lib/firefox-1.5.0.9 to /usr/lib/firefox-1.5.0.10 in default.later.
The real solution is to have readahead.d files packaged with the program
RPMs (or at least have the firefox RPM update default.later), but I don't
know the details of how that would work.

by Jim
http://avasys.jp/ The site is in Japanese, at top right hand corner
click on 'English'
Has a rpm driver for Fedora for the newer Epson printers that cups
doesn't have yet.
You have to install the RPM into cups. and the location of download for
your selected printer is the instruction file, be sure to download.
I have a newer Epson Stylus Photo R260 I need to setup , but instruction
are confusing.
If someone should succeed please leave feedback.

because I cannot boot into it.
Thanks in advance,

Evolution request to firefox-1.5.0.10-1.fc6 to show a URL fails
by Jonathan Ryshpan
When I click on a URL in Evolution (usually highlighted in blue),
firefox does not show the corresponding web page. The problem is new
since I upgraded to firefox-1.5.0.10-1.fc6.
Starting Evolution from a shell shows the following interesting log.
(The last message repeats every time I request Evolution to get the URL
displayed.)
$ evolution
CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...
evolution-shell-Message: Killing old version of evolution-data-server...
** (evolution:3613): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution --component=mail %s
** (evolution:3613): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution
libnm_glib_nm_state_cb: dbus returned an error.
(org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown) The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files
(evolution:3613): evolution-mail-WARNING **: gnome_url_show: There was an error launching the default action command associated with this location.
Has anyone else seen this problem. Is there a solution other than
reloading the last version of firefox?
Thanks - jon

Re: Fdisk and mount disagree?
by Steven I Usdansky
I've done this to myself a few times. Using fdisk to rewrite the
partition type brings consistency (and automountability) without
destroying the data on my usb drive.

Location of Window Manager Log onf FC6/7
by Styma, Robert E (Robert)
Every since going from FC4 to FC6 the window
manager does not start all windows when it
saves the session. The $HOME/.gnome2/session
file lists all the sessions to restart, but
they do not all restart.
The /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not have anything
interesting. Does the window manager used
with Gnome store a startup log anywhere and
are there debugging options which can be used?
I have not found anything useful so far.
