Juniper SSL VPN - stopped working on FC5

Anyone have Juniper VPN still working with the latest updates to FC5- 2.6.20-1.2307.fc5? SSL VPN used to work, but sometime within the last few months, it has stopped working - the network connect application, which sets up routes, is failing - the SSL VPN connection itself works. But without the routes, and other settings, theVPN connection is not totally usable. The ncsvc log seems to show it got the initial info all correct, got the DNS, and then added many routes, for example the log shows: rmon.info adding route to 192.168.1...... with no errors on those lines. The first error line seems to be: sysdeps.error Failed to rename /tmp/hosts.new to /etc/hosts: Invalid cross-device link (sysdeps.cpp:944) and then it disconnects: session.error Error in handling config! (session.cpp:787) session.info disconnecting from ..... and then it deletes all the routes - which error out: rmon.error Failed to delete route: .... which also does not make sense - it added those routes without errors. All this worked fine a few months ago, though I never looked at the logs when it worked, so not sure if the rename /tmp/hosts was always present. Tried running as root, no change, same error.

Grub failures

Grub is failing with the error message : Grub loading stage 1.5. ....... .. Error 5 I checked what error 5 means and the docs say : 5 : "Disk geometry error" This error is returned when a read is attempted at a linear block address beyond the end of the BIOS translated area. This generally happens if your disk is larger than the BIOS can handle (512MB for (E)IDE disks on older machines or larger than 8GB in general). Why is this happening all of sudden when everything was working ?The machine is a dual boot with XP on the other partition. Last week I had another Grub failure at stage 2 , and fixed it by booting into recovery mode and doing : grub grub>root (hd1,0) grub>setup (hd0) grub>quit then rebooted.What could be causing Grub to have these intermittent failures?I haven't touched the BIOS. -- "Don't take the name of root in vain." repartition active machine

Hi all, Here is the issue & I am a relative newbie: I have a older Linux server with two partitions: /mammdata and /rgdata. The latter partition is no longer needed as the storage requirements exploded and it was all moved to a NAS. /mammdata is almost full. Will this scenario work: 1. Back up all data on /mammdata (this is a SMB share) 2. fdisk and delete the partitions /mammdata and /rgdata1 3. create a new partition to use all the space no longer used by the two deleted partitions 4. mkfs.ext3 -jvL pt-data 5. restore the backed up data from originally on /mammdata Thanks for you input, Bob

Cheers, Perfect. I think I've used cdplay in the past but couldn't remember the name. Google didn't help since "cd player" or "play cd" and variations just got all sorts of hits for things like the standard CD Player application, XMMS, etc. I guess they all set the drive to pipe the sound out through the sound card. g++ c++ compiler

Hi All, A definite newbie question here ... I was so desperate to install FC6 I couldn't wait to download all the install discs (I was still on dial-up at that stage) so I only downloaded and burnt to CD the absolutely necessary CDs. Of course, I wasn't able to install the g++ c++ compiler. I have for the last little bit been trying to download and install it using yum, but haven't had any success. I was wondering if someone could help me find out where in which repository it is stored. Thanks for your assistance. Cheers, Tony Crouch

FC6 - openoffice and remote print failures with cups

Everyone, I am having difficulty printing to remote printers using cups from within openoffice on FC6. I have FC4 and FC5 systems on the same remote stations and they work fine. Also other software on the FC6 machine like evolution works fine with remote printing. Printing locally (on the same subnet) on this FC6 machine also works fine. When trying to print remotely via openoffice on this FC6 machine the print menu displays all of the local as well as the remote printers. If a local printer is picked the print tab button is active. If a remote printer is picked the print tab button is inactive which prevents printing. abiword can be used to print the document locally or remotely on this FC6 machine. I have been waiting for this to be fixed, but have not entered a bug report. Thought I would ask here first. Greg Ennis

update confuses system

Hello. I installed FC 6 when it became available, and it worked fine. Then, I upgraded Firefox from 1.5 to 2.0. I needed lots of help - which I got on Mozilla's Firefox maillist. One important note: it was recommended that I install it in /usr/local (whereas Ff 1.5 is in ~/.mozilla). I think that this is confusing Fedora. One problem is that clicking on a web address in Thunderbird elicits: "There was an error launching the default action command associated with this location." (This worked when I used Ff 1.5.) This is with 3 addresses (in 3 emails, each a different domain). Also, I can't seem to get the flash-plugin working in Firefox. Actually, it *was* working (with Ff 2.0), but I had to reboot. Now, no flash plays (including on Adobe's website). Interestingly, there is no message about a missing plugin (where the flash should be shown), AND about:plugins states that it's active. What's going on here?

Is there an application or method (e.g., command the drive to "play audio") that lets me spin an audio CD in my CDROM drive and listen via headphones plugged into the drive's audio jack? The speaker setup I have plugged into my primary desktop does not provide a bypass audio jack. Unfortunately, this means I need to become a hermit and close up my office if I want to listen to tunes while my wife watches the tube. I find the sound quality acceptable using the audio jack on the CDROM but I need a way to spin the disk and NOT have the sound come out the sound card. Thanks, Dave -- Politics, n. [OT] Kannel related questions

Hi, I am new to Kannel and this whole SMS gateway thing. I am trying to learn how to integrate the LAMP system with SMS services (like sent SMS text messages in database to use with other applications). So to try out, I just installed the binary pacakge via yum from extras repo (I'm using FC5). My questions are: 1. Where is it installed by default? I am asking this question because i can use # /etc/rc.d/init.d/kannel start as deemon but according to Kannel documentation it can be started in other ways like ./bearerbox -v 1 [config-file] 2. According to Kannel documentation, it comes with "smskannel.conf" as a sample file but I couldn't locate it anywhere (including /usr/share/doc/kannel-1.4.1). Where can I find it? 3. Can somebody guide me on where to start looking for in order to learn Kannel and integrate it with the web (with apache and php)? Thanks
