FC7 - kdeedu & kdegames

Has anyone got any idea where kdeedu & kdegames are for FC7? I cannot seem to find them on the dvd. And while I am asking questions, why is it that when I specifically deselect GNOME, I still have to go thru all the options to deselect GNOME stuff and find out after the install that I still have remnants of nautilus hanging around? Considering that k3b is the KDE app for burning images, are we going to get that as well? It is also not on the dvd. Also missing is kdewebdev. Does the live cd have them? Problem with networked installation with rescue image

Hi list, I am experimenting with different Linux distributions and after having tried Gentoo and Ubuntu, it is now Fedora's turn. I wanted to do a network install following the installation guide at http://docs.fedoraproject.org/install-guide/f7/en_US/sn-which-files.html and so I downloaded the rescue boot image. However once I get past the point where I enter the FTP server info to fetch the files from I am getting an error. I can still see that it succesfully downloads images/stage2.img, but right after that I get an error saying "Unable to retrieve the install image." and on tty3 I see: 19:45:46 ERROR : LOOP_SET_FD failed: Device or resource busy 19:45:46 ERROR : Error mounting /dev/loop0 in /mnt/runtime (Device or resource busy) I don't really know how to proceed. I asked around in the IRC channel but noone could help me with it. I guess I could just try getting the bigger ISO images and do a local installation but I'd like to figure out what is going wrong here first before I move on to those.

FC6 and floppy mounting

One item you left out of your list of question is I try to remember to check both ways before entering an intersection after the traffic light changes in my favor. The right of way isn't a right that's worth dying for. So, I'd say the car analogy really fits computers. Like with cars, you don't have to do everything perfectly all the time but any lapse is *potentially* an accident waiting to happen. Do it often enough and eventually the accident will happen. Like with safe driving, the idea is to develop a bunch of safe computing habits like checking what logwatch reports, running chkrootkit from cron, if you can, port scan your network from outside (e.g., visit the local library with a laptop) from time to time, etc. Finally, like with cars, if all you want to do is the computing equivalent of hop in, turn the key and make a run to the grocery store, about all you need to do is scan the gages and idiot lights and do the scheduled maintenance. On the other hand, if you want to drive like you're James Bond escaping from Specter, you'd better do a little bit more. All I'd like to see normal users do is the equivalent of scan the idiot lights and do the scheduled maintenance. That's all. Conversely, if you want to go beyond just checking e-mail and surfing the 'net, it is your responsibility to make sure that whatever services you open up don't become an invitation to hackers. How Can I Boot an F7 Live Image without an Optical Drive

I have a system without an optical drive, that I want to install Fedora 7 on. In the past I have done the hack to get grub to boot the installation media off of a file on one of the systems partitions. Now that there is a live image, I would like to test the system with the new release before permanently installing it. My hope is that there is an easy way to book directly off of the iso image from grub. It seems that this shouldn't be too conceptually different from booting off of a USB drive, but perhaps I am simplifying things. So, how can I boot the live iso image on one of my file systems from grub? Thanks in advance. -Schlaegel

fedora as a gateway / server

Folks, I need a little guidance, not just a set of 'do this' instructions. Although, I won't toss those! :) I have built a small network at home for the family using five windows boxes and one Linux box. Currently, everything plugs into a DSL Modem for Internet connectivity. I would like to change this to have a Linux box ( Pentium II ) residential serve as a gateway to provide firewall and proxy services. I suppose that it will also need to behave as a DHCP server? Will it need a second NIC installed that will attach to a hub for the other boxes? Is Fedora too big an OS for this? Something smaller, Ubuntu? In addition, it would be nice to have another Linux box ( Pentium III ) acting as a web/db/file server. I plan to use Apache and Oracle for this. Is Samba still what I should use to store Windows files? Is there a mature IIS 6 'clone' or drop in replacement out there? I haven't looked for this yet, so, don't yell.
