F7: Compiz makes me freeze

Hello, my dear Fedorians! I was using compiz with no problems and almost "out of the box" after installing livna's kmod-nvidia of course. Some time after installation I began loosing the window title and controls (_, [] and X) and then, it just started freezing my computer just like that. This always happened while turning "Desktop Effects" on and off. Last time I had to remove and reinstall compiz and delete ~/.gconf/apps/compiz for it to start working (without FX) Has anybody suffered from this too? Can anybody help? prelink process using too much CPU

Hi, In a new installation of F7, a process named prelink is hogging up CPU time. It almost always uses more than 70% of CPU time, sometimes getting close to 100%. This did not happen in FC6 in the same machine. What may be causing that? Thanks, Marcelo

How to get Linux host name written in Windows DHCP and DNS?

Our local network is mostly Windows machines with more and more Linux machines (FC7). The DHCP server is a Windows 2003 server. The Linux machines get an IP address just fine and they get on the network without any problems. The only problem is that they don't write any type of name in DHCP or DNS. The DHCP log of the server is shown below. You can see where the Windows clients write their info (first four lines) and the fifth line is where a Linux clients gets its IP address but it has no name. boot problem i think

i downloaded i386 live cd w/ kde.iso and put to cd. ran on a pentium 4 just to make sure worked. loved it worked perfect no problem found all hardware worked like a dream - but - i wanted to install on diffrent computer a pentium 3 i have almost same hardware ie. video sound etc. but system hung on /udev at boot is it just because its a pentium 3? it just hangs cant get to go beyond - no logs nothing no error messages just sits there waited hour just to be patient for it. am i missing something? Anyone know what this Logwatch message means?

I recently started getting a block of 30 or so copies of the message --- **Unmatched Entries** crond[12090]: pam_loginuid(crond:session): set_loginuid failed opening loginuid: 1 Time(s) crond[12092]: pam_loginuid(crond:session): set_loginuid failed opening loginuid: 1 Time(s) crond[12136]: pam_loginuid(crond:session): set_loginuid failed opening loginuid: 1 Time(s) ... --- In my logwatch output. Does anyone connect to Fedora 7 from Windows using XDCMP with Xming? If so, can you get the clipboard function to work? (i.e. passing clipboard between Fedora and Windows). How?

Hello Guys did any one have successfully installed Fedora 7 (or even any other distribution) on a D102GGC ? I'm trying with Fedora 7 version but after the installation it's done and the box reboot I' getting SATA controller Problems. I try to seek for other posts but it seems that it's the version of the SATA controller which it's giving problems. Thanks //ed

Where to Download all FC 6 and Fedora 7 latest update

Hello, In the next week I'm going to have to work at place where high-speed internet does not exist. My work requires linux, and I'm used to FC 6, so I'm thinking of installing Fedora on the machine that I'm using there. Either FC 6 or 7 should work for me. I'm going to bring the ISO's on DVD. I've also download Livna repo and burning it to DVD (just in case I need some of their stuff). My question is, what's the best way to download all the latest update for FC 6 (core, extras) and FC 7 ? Is there any site that has an ISO image of this, or should I just hit one of the mirror and download each RPM individually ? Thanks. RDB -- Reuben D. Budiardja

Can't access USB disk in rescue mode

Hi, I'm trying to access a USB disk while booted into rescue mode (FC6). When I connect the device, dmesg reports info like: <6>usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 <6>usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice But no device special files are created in /dev, so I can't access the disk. When booted to regular (not rescue mode) FC6, this same disk appears as /dev/sd*. Is there a way to access USB mass storage devices while in rescue mode? Thanks.

Invisible mouse pointer problem

Hi, I just installed f7 on a new box. Once the machine is up and running the mouse pointer disappears. The mouse is working because if I move it carefully I can use it to navigate the menus at the top of the screen. I was able to turn on the option to highlight the mouse when the ctrl key is pressed which allows me to kind of operate the machine. I have installed all of the updates but I cannot figure out how to get the mouse pointer to show up. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this. I am not running any of the nVidia propriatory modules and I would like to avoid that if possible.
