Question, where is it configured (in FC6) with sendmail/procmail that mail is delivered to /var/spool/mail/<user>? I see in the sendmail.cf that the mqueue is configured, but I use the m4 and there's nothing that says where mail is delivered. I figured at first it was a procmail configuration, but all it does (with my setup) is send it to spamassassin. I'm thinking the sendmail m4 line: FEATURE(local_procmail, `', `procmail -t -Y -a $h -d $u')dnl is setting the delivery location from the parameter $h and the user from $u?

F8-x86_64 dccm problem & confusion

Greetings; Trying to make synce work on my lappy. 1) the error message when trying to start the synce-trayicon is missleading as it names a failure to start dccm as a major problem, but parks itself in the tray anyway. 2) starting synce-software-manager doesn't complain, but doesn't show anything either. No pulldown config menu's or anything but the add-subtract etc buttons. Is this the correct behaviour? 3) I finally installed the smart package manager because the updatern appears to to have been dumbed down until it just barely survives. Using the search function of SPM, I find that the package is actually named vdccm, and is supposed to replace the dccm in the synce-kde package. Thats fine, but there is no 'dccm' in the synce-kde package. And all the vdccm stuff that's non-devel is installed already. 4) as user, do "strace /usr/bin/vdccm", which begins the failure stanza with a getuid() returning a 500, then setresuid(-1, 500, -1) = 0 setresuid(-1, 0, -1) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) getuid() = 500 geteuid() = 500 write(2, "[int main(int, char**)53:] ",27[int main(int, char**):53] ) = 27 write(2, "Could not start - either because"...,90Could not start - either because vdccm is not installed suid, or you start directly as root) = 90 So I become root with an su - and repeat, and get essentially that same exact output but without the setresuid's -EPERM return, it and the following setresuid's are all = 0 this time: getuid() = 0 setresuid(-1, 0, -1) = 0 setresuid(-1, 0, -1) = 0 getuid() = 0 geteuid() = 0 write(2, "[int main(int, char**)53:] ",27[int main(int, char**):53] ) = 27 write(2, "Could not start - either because"...,90Could not start - either because vdccm is not installed suid, or you start directly as root) = 90 This does not appear to be an selinux problem, but a packaging problem, so how do I fix the already installed /usr/bin/vdccm? Its perms now read -rwsr-xr-x according to ls -l. And 5) will this fix the synce-trayicon since its error message says dccm, not vdccm? 6) what's the relationship to raki, do they clash and fsck things up fighting over resources? I've been following these threads (Java Problem & Java Again Really) and I think that some of the focus and direction has been lost. It's almost become 'let me exert my will on you' situation. If we ask ourselves 'Why is Fedora being built?' we will see that this isn't a 'out of the box solution' for most users, nor is it a M$ desktop replacement - yet. For that you need someone to make all of the choices and decisions for you and we know who that is. As long as Linux remains a 'do it the way you want it to be done' operating system, there is no wrong way to do things - if it works, only different ways to do things. If you like the how and where the people who packages the extra pieces (and remember that java, tomcat, eclipse, etc. are extra and not required to run Fedora) provided, then go that direction. But if you decide you want to go a different way, then pose your question here and someone will attempt to give a way to do it - not tell you that you are wrong for not going the way someone else has decided. I chose a different direction for my 'extra' packages: For Java, take a look at these documents: http://fedorasolved.org/browser-solutions/java-i386 http://fedorasolved.org/browser-solutions/sun-jdk Both of these are on the Fedora Solved site. I combined them to make my working document. There are others, but they are beyond the scope of these threads. open a terminal session from the menu change to root with the command su - folowed by the root password enter the command for your favorite editor on the command line followed by an & to start it in a separate session. [F8] P5GC-MX/1333 and Attansic LAN. Anyone get this to work?

Cripe. I bought the ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 and the onboard LAN has to have special drivers installed BEFORE you can access your LAN. Same for the onboard audio and video stuff but seems that I can forego the video stuff since my X11 is working fine at this time. Well, guess what. You have to BUILD the driver first AND it has to be compatable with the Kernel. Using the LiveCD means I don't have all the necessary build tools to even get started and alas, no, I do not have a DVD drive. I guess, I will have to use an empty partition and FTP download everything in it and pray that the Package Manager can be directed to use the local filesystem for it's RPM? Anyone have a better idea? The mystery of WiFi

IIRC, Fedora - and other distributions - tried to bring up the interface <xyz> if there was a file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-<xyz>. But this no longer seems to be the case - I have an ifcfg-eth0 which is completely ignored by "service network restart" and even "ifup eth0". RPMFusion - what is going on?

Does anybody have some info on when is RPMFusion repo scheduled to be officially released to Fedora users? I have read only announcements couple months ago on few blogs and since then complete radio silence. What is going on with that project, does anybody know? Disk Partitioning questions

I have finally gotten a SATA 300GB HD and plan to multiboot w2k, XP, and Fedora. The question is, what is the best way to partition the drive? What I plan so far is: p1: w2k, 25GB p2: XP, 25GB p3: /boot, 100MB p4: Extended /, 100GB /app1, 50GB /app2, 50GB /app3, rest of available space minus swap swap 2GB But when I use the F8-LiveCD and custom partitioning gui, I cannot see where I can create the extended filesystem in p4 before I can create the logical drives of /, /app1, /app2, and /app3? Is it sufficient to simply not choose the 'Force to be a primary partition' for p4? Thanks! No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
