Slow Grub on new mobo Q

Greetings; I built a new box yesterday, and one of the things I'm seeing is about a 10 second lag between the bios clearing the screen after doing its thing, and the "Loading Grub stage 2", which stays on screen for several seconds, then its blanked for another 10 secs or so, and finally the grub 'choice' menu comes up. This is with the new grub. One thing I had done on the previous mobo was to have just one entry in /boot/grub/devices, but I see that has been reset by something from /dev/sdb to /dev/sda, presumably by upgrading grub this morning. The bios is set to boot from the first ide, which is (hd0,0) I believe. What can I post that might be of interest?, just ask. Dear you, Do you means if the NIC replaced with a new one ( hardware fail ) or need to be installed the second NIC to the motherboard, the system ( such as FC9 ) will auto update the current NIC config and driver ( IP address by manual ) , right ? So, we needn't to running any tool ( cmd ) to update udev / modprobe ( system default ) ? Thnaks ! Edward.

Digital signatures don't work in Fedora's OpenOffice

Greetings, I'm trying to set up digital signatures in Openoffice 2.3 and FC 8. I've followed the instructions at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/How_to_use_digital_Signatures and http://www.linux.com/articles/57554 I've got a client certificate and it shows in Firefox but not in OpenOffice. Even setting the MOZILLA_CERTIFICATE_FOLDER variable doesn't help. Further googling only reveals two or three other people who already had the same problem with other versions of Fedora, but no way to make it work. Is it really impossible to use digital signatures from OpenOffice in Fedora? If yes, what's the reason? Thanks. Pulseaudio... again. How to restart it?

Hi, I'm having some issues with Pulseaudio (well, I have sound only half of the times I boot my system...) These are the synthoms: mplayer file1.avi .... AO: [pulse] Init failed: Connection refused Could not open/initialize audio device -> no sound. Audio: no sound .... I tried with $ pulseaudio -k E: main.c: Failed to kill daemon. I can't find the pulseaudio process. What's its name? Can I kill it if it doesn't kill itself? Thanks in advance.

how to disable partitions auto-mount?

I have two NTFS partitions and I do not always need them. I need password to mount them. But if I check then "remember authorization" option, they will be auto-mounted every time I log in. This is not what I want. I need password remembering and no auto-mounting. Any suggestions? Creating a common folder for all users

I have a f9 system at home and it is used by me, wife and kids. Sometimes we want to share files docs, pictures and stuff. Here are my plans, 1. mkdir /fileshare 2. create "share" group 3. add all users this group 4. chmod -R ug+rwx /fileshare 5. chown -R root:share /fileshare 6. for each user, rm -rf /home/<user>/Public 7. for each user, ln -s /fileshare /home/<user>/Public Whatever they copy to their Public directory, it will be visible by all. Will this work? Is there a better idea? Thanks, Steve
