Changing the size of a xterm

I remember there was a way to change the size of an xterm but I can't remember what it is. What I want is the same thing ctrl-+ does with gnome-terminal. change timezone?

Hi all, I've one host that insists it is living in PST, the rest of my hosts know that it is still PDT. I'm guessing there's a flag somewhere that says "Adjust for Daylight Savings Time"? Even after I've correctly set the time and fired up ntpd the time eventually (un)corrects itself back to PST. At a loss here; any takers? tia, mike wright

help with linux symlinks in vmware XP client

I'm running an XP client in VMware on a Fedora machine. I keep all my personal windows stuff in "~/ddriv" which is then available to XP via the "Shared Folders" mechanism of VMware. That way, when XP is not running, I still have access to ~/ddriv from linux for backup and other purposes. The problem is that XP does not understand linux symlinks. This did not used to be a problem under Win4lin/windows98. Are there easy solutions to this short of hardlinks? -dsm

Classroom sessions - feedback report

I'd like to thank everyone that took the time to respond to my request for feedback for classroom sessions. Sorry for the delay in tallying them up and sending this email out. It looks like the following sessions are most in demand from those that responded (in order of people mentioning them): iptables and firewalls How to make a rpm package selinux and security upgrading and reinstalling tips how to get involved in fedora basic desktop usage. The majority of folks wanted weekend sessions, with a few requesting middle of the day/lunch time sessions. I'm going to look into finding someone to lead some of the above sessions and we will look at scheduling them for the first weekend of november. We will likely just do a few that weekend and see how things go. Will keep everyone posted! thanks again. kevin

Installing F10b on Toshiba Sat. A215-S4767

Here are my experiences last weekend installing Fedora 10beta (91-1, I think) on Toshiba Satellite A215-S4767 laptop. This machine has the AMD Turion, ATI Radeon X1200 (1280x800) video, & the Atheros AR5007EG/AR2425 wifi. The DVD booted ok and the anaconda installer started in what looked like the full 1240x800 display - unlike when I installed F9. No mouse active at this time. When the installation options window appeared on the desktop, the lower third or so of the window (where the option select boxes are located) was hidden at the bottom of the display. I went ahead with the install by tabbing and pressing enter till the correct selection was made. I had to choose the defaults and was not able to get smolt to configure. Everything installed fine otherwise. On first boot, it stalled at starting sendmail & sm-client. I had changed the name from localhost during install. Would be nice if the installer could fix the hosts file to prevent this?? The next boot went rapidly & the display appeared good except the mouse did not stop at the bottom of the display - it continued for an extra inch (2.5cm) or so. But - wifi worked!!! The window popped up to enter my pass phrase & I was connected right out of the box, so to say. No configuration, extra drivers, nothing. I almost fell out of my chair I was so happy. Thank you. Thank you. After the system downloaded 500+ updates & I re-started, the mouse now stops at the bottom of the display, wifi works, the built-in camera works, I can hear system sounds but haven't had time to test more. lsusb sees the fingerprint reader but I haven't tried it further - & probably won't, they're a pita. I did install both Gnome & KDE - so far both seem stable. Now, if I could get Skype to work, I could dump Vi$ta. Great job the developers have done. I would like to be able to see the grub boot option count down timer though. Just one question. What is that large blue hair ball on the right side of the display? =:) Fred

ktorrent screen size?

Greetings; I had forgotten cuz I haven't ran it in a spell, but ktorrent's screen is about 3 feet tall. I can alt+lmb and drag it so I can see the bottom, but grabbing the bottom with the mouse to raise it back up doesn't work. I've even edited the ktorrentrc file without changing this. Is this a known bug? Their bugzilla needs an account and password, which makes reporting a bug difficult if not impossible since I didn't paint it on the wall 5 years ago. I am also subscribed to their kde mailing list and get several msgs a day, but my posts just bounce cuz I'm not subscribed. Hints please. FONTS

Hello guys, once again a question from me ... How you are satisfied with current font look in Fedora ? It is a blocker for daily work for you? Well for me ... yes, fonts are blurry and it makes my eyes hurt. So even if i love fedora, i can not use it for daily work ... Thanks, D.

Trying to reconfigure F9 to new computer hardware... firstboot?

What happened was that I spent a lot of time configuring computer "A", and rsync'd the root filesystem onto disk at computer "B". I then rsync'd from hard disk to computer "C" and everything was fine except that the hardware is clearly different. My X came up fine (I manually ran Xorg -configure, but as for the rest of the hardware such as sound and "other hardware" was clearly not the same so I used firstboot. The instructions were: 1) mv /etc/sysconfig/firstboot /etc/sysconfig/firstboot.bak 2) rm /etc/sysconfig/firstboot 3) chkconfig --level 34 firstboot on 4) reboot On rebooting, the screen starts in text screen, then "flips" over to gui screen, then back to text screen, repeatedly, "forever" 5) If 1-4 does not work, then: touch /etc/reconfigSys 6) reboot Same thing. I searched the websites and could not find a solution. So how can I reconfigure computer "C" hardware and general setup (keyboard, mouse, sound, ...)? Thanks! Dan
